Your Opportunity

We have an immediate need for a Senior Architect to join our Health Practice. This role is intended for an experienced architect who is passionate about shaping healthcare environments that support patient-centered care, operational efficiency, clinical excellence, staff well-being, and community access. The successful candidate will bring proven experience in acute care, ambulatory care, clinical, diagnostic, long-term care, mental health, or other health-related facilities and will help strengthen Stantec’s Health practice in Sacramento.

As a Senior Health Architect, you will guide complex healthcare projects through planning, functional programming, design, documentation, procurement, construction administration, commissioning support, and close-out. You will work directly with healthcare clients, clinical and operational user groups, project managers, integrated design teams, and subject matter experts to translate models of care, workflow requirements, infection prevention and control considerations, technical standards, stakeholder priorities, and patient and staff needs into practical, well-coordinated architectural solutions.

This role requires a balance of design leadership, healthcare planning knowledge, technical judgment, delivery discipline, and client service. You will help create facilities that are safe, inclusive, resilient, sustainable, adaptable, and responsive to evolving models of care while supporting a collaborative team culture. You will also contribute to pursuits, client development, interviews, mentoring, and the continued growth of Stantec’s Health practice.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Guide healthcare projects from early planning and functional programming through design, construction administration, commissioning support, and close-out.

• Translate client, clinical, operational, infection prevention and control, accessibility, stakeholder, and public-sector healthcare priorities into coordinated architectural solutions.

• Work with project and practice leadership to align scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and design intent.

• Coordinate integrated design teams and apply Stantec’s quality, BIM, document control, and delivery processes.

• Support client and stakeholder meetings, clinical user group workshops, functional programming sessions, presentations, pursuits, interviews, and healthcare approvals.

• Coach team members and contribute to portfolio development, thought leadership, and market-facing materials.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Advanced technical knowledge of healthcare architectural design, clinical planning, documentation, interdisciplinary coordination, constructability, and construction administration.

• Experience with healthcare, clinical, acute care, ambulatory care, diagnostic, long-term care, mental health, community health, or other operationally complex health projects.

• Ability to balance design quality, clinical functionality, patient and staff experience, technical requirements, scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client priorities.

• Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, team leadership, mentoring, and client relationship skills.

• Experience applying QA/QC, BIM, project governance, interdisciplinary coordination, healthcare standards, and infection prevention and control requirements.

• Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other common architectural tools.

Education and Experience

• Professional degree in Architecture, such as a Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture, is required.

• Registration as an Architect in California is required. PMP, LEED accreditation, or comparable credentials are considered assets.

• Minimum of 15 years of progressive architectural experience, including leadership / Architect of Record on multidisciplinary projects in an architecture, engineering, or professional services environment.

• Relevant experience in healthcare architecture is strongly preferred, including acute care, ambulatory care, clinical and diagnostic environments, long-term care, mental health facilities, community health centers, renovations in operating healthcare facilities, or other complex health environments.

• Healthcare (OSHPD/HCAI) experience is desired.

Pay Range:

• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas-$113,400.00 - $170,200.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
