RN - FT - Hospice & Palliative Care Unit

RN - 3E Hospice and Palliative Care Unit Full‑Time, 36 hrs/week, 7a‑7:30p. On‑call requirement: 4 shifts/schedule. Job Summary Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, a Registered Nurse in this unit utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory to deliver, coordinate, and/or delegate nursing care. The RN manages resources to provide optimal care for patients, their families, and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining, and restoring optimum health. Formal Education Required Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN). Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered only if they obtain a BSN within three (3) years of employment. Graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio. Experience and Training Required PRN RN’s must have at least one year of recent experience in the area of practice. One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions. Additional related previous experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Ability to work under stressful conditions or irregular hours. Exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls and strains. Maintains current Basic Life Support certification. All nurses new to critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must successfully complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and maintain current certification. Experienced RNs hired into areas requiring ACLS are expected to have an ACLS certification upon hire or must be completed within six weeks of hire. Ability to effectively interact with diverse populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self‑respect, dignity, and diversity. Population Specific Competency Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (e.g., PALS, NIH, Non‑Violet Crisis Intervention). Level of Physical Demands Heavy: Exerts 50‑100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25‑50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10‑20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
