Practical Nursing Instructor

Job Summary SUMMARY: The Instructor is entrusted with imparting the knowledge and skills each student needs to be successful by providing quality delivery of assigned courses while ensuring that all students achieve competency in the course objectives. Essential Functions Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and/or laboratory format based on the approved course outline by selecting and utilizing a variety of approved course materials and teaching methods that address all learning modalities to ensure that the needs of individual students in the program are met. Assess student learning using appropriate methods. Demonstrate effectiveness with strong outcomes in student retention, student success, and student attendance, as measured by the Faculty Development Program. Conduct an engaging classroom lecture and/or laboratory based on the course outline. Motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity to concerns and actively involving them in classroom discussions and/or activities. Advise students on attendance, grades, and issues to ensure successful completion of their course. Contact absentee students by text, email, and/or phone as needed to improve retention. Manage classroom environment through compliance with campus policies including, but not limited to, classroom management, attendance, punctuality, and professionalism. Ensure instructor preparedness before class by listing on the whiteboard the following information: instructor name and contact information, date, class name, day’s objectives, and next session objectives. Monitor and prepare supplies and equipment to ensure readiness prior to class, informing appropriate campus personnel when areas requiring attention are discovered. Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in‑service meetings. Attendance at commencement is strongly encouraged. Demonstrate professional growth in the subject taught through activities such as membership in educational associations, professional organizations, continuing education, related business experience, educational research, and awareness of current practices and standards. Attend seminars, conventions, field visits, vendor shows, and equipment exhibits to gain enrichment. Produce professional writing related to the subject. Actively support other departments such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and Career Services. Ensure that all educational activity is conducted in a legal and ethical manner. Demonstrate continuous improvement by working within the guidelines of the Company’s Faculty Development Program or other criteria such as success rate, retention rate, student attendance rate, student evaluations of instructor, and final exam pass rates. Maintain employer relationships through at least annual contacts with employers, one of which must be a site visit and the other may be a phone conversation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, active listening, strong time management, and ability to work well under pressure. Ability to multitask, prioritize, be resourceful, and solve problems. Ability to follow policies and procedures and support the Managing Director. Positive attitude toward school activities. Proficiency with basic office equipment, computers, and applications including Microsoft Office Suite. Minimum Qualifications Current, unencumbered Michigan licensure as a registered nurse (RN). Bachelor’s degree in nursing science (BSN). At least one year of documented experience related to the course taught. An associate degree in nursing (ADN) holder actively pursuing a BSN is qualified to teach in the Practical Nurse program. Courses not entitled “NUR” may be taught by an LPN or higher, or someone with a bachelor’s degree in the subject taught. Documentation of enrollment in BSN program required. Exception paperwork must be filed with the Board of Nursing prior to teaching; the exception is good for two years. Working / Physical Demands May be required to work late and occasional weekends to support business needs. Must be able to see, talk, and hear while performing duties. Must frequently stand, walk, sit for extended periods, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned by their manager to meet business demands. Employment is “at‑will”; this is not an employment contract, implied or otherwise.
