Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Days

Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem‑patient situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision‑making and self‑direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II provides patient and family education, coordinates activities, participates in staff development, and engages in professional development. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Completion of patient care, documentation and education. Team approach to service, promoting a team spirit and positive work environment. Provides a supportive environment for students and staff. Performs patient assessment for therapy. Collaborates with health‑care team members in planning patient care. Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, and oxygen medical gas therapy. Performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, airway management (intubation, extubation, tracheal tube change and care). Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students and peers. Assists in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting and charging. Promotes high level of patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.). Promotes performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Promotes evidence‑based practice and reviews revised and new DPPs. Required Minimum Education Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with minimally 20 quarter hours of science. Associate’s Degree (A.S.) required. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree. Required Minimum Licenses and Certification(s) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) or similar. Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Instructor. Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Instructor. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Instructor. Additional Licenses and Certification(s) (Optional) Additional certifications may be required. Minimum Experience 0–2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Minimum Skills Strong communication skills. Critical thinking skills. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals. Computer skills, including familiarity with databases. Good customer relation, assessment, and communication skills.
