What this job involves: As a Building Engineer at JLL, you will support the operation, maintenance, and overall functionality of building systems within the assigned property portfolio. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, responding to tenant service requests, supporting building operations, and ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with JLL standards. The Building Engineer plays a key role in maintaining a high-quality environment for clients and occupants while partnering closely with facility management, vendors, and operations teams to support efficient day-to-day building performance.

What your day-to-day will look like:

• Perform preventative maintenance, routine inspections, and scheduled repairs on building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment.
• Complete inspection checklists and communicate maintenance concerns, repair needs, and follow-up items to the Chief Building Engineer and Facility Manager.
• Respond to tenant service requests and provide professional, customer-focused support to tenants, vendors, and team members.
• Maintain the appearance and operational standards of the property in alignment with JLL expectations.
• Assist with general interior maintenance including lighting replacement, office furniture repairs, hanging fixtures, door repairs, and workspace moves.
• Partner with contracted vendors to monitor service quality and support the review of service specifications and scopes of work.
• Maintain safe work practices by following safety procedures, identifying hazards, completing hazard assessments, and maintaining clean work areas.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of experience in commercial building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or building engineering.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, construction drawings, diagrams, and work orders.
• Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively to maintenance and operational priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical certification or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related field.
• Experience supporting commercial office or mixed-use properties.
• Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and work order management systems.
• Basic understanding of contracted vendor management and service coordination.
• Knowledge of workplace safety standards and OSHA-related practices.
• Experience assisting with operating or capital budget-related maintenance activities.
• Ability to support minor carpentry, furniture systems, and interior repair tasks.

Location: Washington, DC

Work Shift: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Salary: $39 - $41 per hour

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Expected compensation for this position: 39.00 – 41.00 USD per year

Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
