Job Description

This role performs production welding on sub-assemblies and finished products using primarily GMAW (MIG) processes, working under close to minimal supervision. You will prepare, weld, and inspect components made from A36 to 4140 heat-treated steel in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions, while following detailed written and verbal instructions. The position also includes basic on-line testing and inspection activities, as well as cleaning and preparing units for subsequent operations, all while strictly adhering to safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Weld sub-assemblies and finished products using GMAW (MIG) welding processes in accordance with written and verbal instructions.
• Perform welding on A36 to 4140 heat-treated steel in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
• Carry out Air Arc Gouging operations on specified materials as required by job specifications.
• Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment and tooling to achieve quality welds and maintain production standards.
• Perform on-line testing and inspection activities with minimal supervision to verify weld quality and conformance to specifications.
• Clean and prepare welded units for the next operation in accordance with established procedures.
• Assist in fitting and positioning components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and fit-up.
• Work with tooling and fixtures to support accurate, repeatable welding operations.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon and heat-treated steels, including A36 to 4140 materials.
• Ability to perform welding in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
• Experience with fitting components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and dimensional accuracy.
• Knowledge of basic welding inspection and on-line testing methods to verify weld quality.
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, including procedures and work instructions.
• Understanding of and adherence to safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment with welding operations.
• Capability to perform Air Arc Gouging on steel components as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with tool and fixture design to support welding and fabrication processes.
• Experience in weld fixture design and use to ensure repeatable, high-quality welds.
• Exposure to automation and robot programming related to welding or metal fabrication.
• TIG welding experience on steel or related materials.
• Experience with flux core welding processes.
• Sheet metal fabrication experience.
• Metal fabrication experience, including layout, cutting, and forming.
• Software design experience related to automation, robotics, or manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with programming for automated or robotic welding systems.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing shop that includes welding, machining, assembly, packing, and shipping operations. The facility is non-climate controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons and daily conditions. You will work around active welding and fabrication equipment, requiring consistent attention to safety and proper handling of tools and materials. The standard shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with flexibility needed to work additional hours as required; the operation typically runs between 5:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., providing opportunities for overtime when desired. Required personal protective equipment includes steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, and jeans as part of the regular dress code, along with any additional protective gear needed for specific tasks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lenexa, KS.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
