Job Description Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology/Acute Care (Example) Responsibilities Perform and document accurate initial and ongoing assessments to evaluate patient conditions and needs. Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to address identified patient needs and goals. Administer medications accurately and appropriately as ordered, monitoring patient responses and adjusting interventions as necessary. Supervise and guide nursing personnel in delivering safe, therapeutic, and quality patient care, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. Provide patient and family education about the care plan, medications, procedures, and other relevant information to ensure understanding and compliance. Assist physicians with bedside procedures and prepare patients for tests, procedures, and surgeries. Monitor patient lab work for trends and report abnormal results for necessary actions. Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families. Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to policies and procedures and infection control protocols. Document all pertinent patient care information accurately and timely in the patient's medical record. Participate in quality improvement and research activities by engaging in unit-based initiatives and evidence-based practice projects. Respond effectively to emergencies by providing necessary interventions and coordinating with the healthcare team to stabilize patients. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities High level of abstract reasoning to assess patient, evaluate interventions, and revise plan of care according to patient outcomes. Basic computer skills; ability to navigate Windows-based programs. Fluent in English (read, spoken, and written). Proficient use of equipment to stabilize and monitor patients (IV insertion, central lines, pulse oximetry, NG tubes, Foley, chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring), and use of electronic medical record and automated dispensing medication system (Pyxis). Proficient clinical and critical thinking skills, and strong communication abilities. Commitment to hourly patient rounding and EKG interpretation. Judgment, clinical assessment, data interpretation, and effective decision-making in clinical situations. Ability to prioritize multiple duties and maintain calm, professional conduct during stressful situations. Knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques; pharmacology related to medication administration. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with health professionals to support the facility's mission. Effective verbal and written communication to direct professional nursing services and encourage open exchange of ideas. Willingness to float to appropriate departments within scope, skill/ability, and credentials. Organizational and multi-tasking abilities; teamwork within a unit. EKG knowledge relevant to patient population. Education and Field of Study Associate's Degree in Nursing (Required) Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred) Field of Study: N/A Experience and Licenses 1+ years acute care hospital experience (Preferred) Licenses and Certifications: Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS) [Required] Registered Nurse (RN) [Required] Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) [Preferred] Pediatric ER Assess, Recognize & Stabilization (PEARS) [Preferred] Other listed certifications as preferred Physical Requirements The position may require viewing and performing duties as described in the physical requirements document.
