SUMMARY
The Assistant Principal will assist in all aspects of support to the building principal. An Assistant Principal is accountable to provide for the management of all student related services and activities. APPOINTMENT By the Board of Education, upon recommendation of the Principal to the Superintendent EVALUATION Annually by the Principal and/or Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a master's degree from an accredited institution
- Possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Possess, in process, or eligible of obtaining Administrative Certification
- Five years successful teaching and/or school administration experience
- Meet administrator continuing education requirement
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following in conjunction with the building Principal)
- Assumes responsibility for total building operation in the absence of the principal
- Assist in personnel matters
- Assists in carrying out the policies of the Board of Education and district regulations
- Provides building leadership
- Supervises substitute personnel
- Supervises non-certified staff assigned to supervision of students
- Assumes leadership roles in curriculum improvement, and implements and evaluates programs within budget limitation
- Develops guidelines for student behavior and discipline
- Supports staff efforts to ensure student compliance with behavioral guidelines
- Supervises use and accumulation of general education records of students
- Coordinates pupil services with supportive agencies (courts, protective services)
- Assists in attendance and tardiness responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for transportation, hallway, fire drill, and locker supervision
- Assists in the organization of the lunch hour supervision
- Assists in the preparation of school and teacher schedules
- Plans and attends student athletic events and activities as assigned
- Assists with and supervises school assembly programs
- Assists in selecting, screening and interviewing potential staff members
- Coordinate school and district calendars
- Knowledge and coordination of Section 504 accommodation plans and special education services
- Assists in the coordination and supervision, if necessary, of P.A. announcements, school newspaper, display cabinets, hall duty, textbook collection and inventory, bus loading, student council, and athletics
- Assists in teacher evaluation, both tenure and probationary and makes appropriate employment recommendations
- Participates in collaborative school improvement process
- Participates in District task forces and study groups
- Conducts special projects as assigned (including assessments, graduation and recognition ceremonies)
- Attends appropriate meetings as requested
- Ability to interact with public, students, and staff in a positive and safe manner
- Coordinates standardized assessments (State & National)
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Assists the Principal, and in the absence of the principal, in the direct supervision of all building staff members; certified, instructional and support. Monitors supervision of visitors and outside contracted service workers working in the building. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS State certifications, licenses, and registrations as required by state and district. See qualifications noted above.
