Property Tax Researcher (project role) (United States)

Owlue is a property tax savings company. Every county, city and town in the US runs property tax a little differently: its own rules, its own forms, its own deadlines, its own office to deal with. We are building an internal knowledge base of how each jurisdiction works, and we need one person to own it.

The project

Research and document local property tax rules and procedures, jurisdiction by jurisdiction, and verify them at the source.

What you will do

• Learn how each jurisdiction runs its property tax cycle: assessment dates, roll dates, appeal and application deadlines, billing and payment schedules.
• Document the relief and adjustment programs each jurisdiction offers homeowners, what the rules are, and how they differ between county, city, town and school district.
• Collect the operating details: forms, where and how they are filed (paper, portal, in person), documents required, signatures and notarization, who may act for a homeowner, office contacts and hours.
• Read the underlying statutes, local laws and codes and cite them precisely.
• Call assessor and tax offices to confirm anything the web cannot settle, and log the answers.
• Keep every fact sourced with a link and a date, flag anything unverified, and record conflicts between sources.
• Track pending changes: local laws in progress, state bills, ballot measures, and their effective dates.
• Maintain the knowledge base in a structured format we agree together, with a change log, and hand over a routine for keeping it current.

You need

• Three or more years in property tax administration, assessment or exemption processing (assessor's office, county real property tax agency, state revenue department), or equivalent work.
• Comfort reading statutes and municipal codes.
• Strong spreadsheet discipline: consistent structure, controlled vocabularies, no free-text drift.
• Based in the US, available to 40 hours a week for three months.

Term and pay

• Independent contractor (1099), remote, three months with the opportunity to convert to full time.
• Rate agreed based on experience.
