Recreation Assistant - Garey Park (On-Call)

Perform customer service duties at Garey Park, including monitoring activities, issuing equipment, and providing program and membership information to participants. This is a part‑time, on‑call position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides customer service to all participants in activities and programs at the area of assignment. Registers participants and members for activities, programs and services; collects pay for fees and memberships and reconciles receipts and the cash register at the end of shift. Processes member paperwork, including address changes, member cancellations, new members, electronic funds transfers and payments. Monitors activities offered through the City Parks & Recreation Division to ensure compliance with rules and policies and safety guidelines. Distributes recreation equipment to customers. Opens and closes the center according to established policies and procedures. Responds to inquiries and/or complaints from citizens and contract instructors. Completes report forms including incident/accident and facility tracking reports. Assists other staff members with computer input for programs, filing of forms, and flyer distribution. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning in and around the facility. Participates in and assists with monthly special events and programs (evenings & weekends) or other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school graduate or equivalent. Six (6) months of customer service or public contact experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training. Cash handling skills preferred. Knowledge of CPR and first‑aid procedures; customer service practices and procedures; money‑handling practices and procedures; City policies and procedures. Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing; working well with adults and children; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; monitoring center health and safety compliance policies and procedures; resolving customer complaints and concerns; taking messages and writing reports; performing basic math calculations to make change. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class "C" Texas Drivers License. Must possess or obtain CPR certification within six (6) months from the date of employment. Must possess or obtain First Aid certification within six (6) months from the date of employment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, and use of foot controls. May be subject to extended periods of standing, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as setting up, conducting, and cleaning up program activities. Exposure to chemicals and recreation equipment. COMPENSATION Hiring range: $15.86 - $19.86 per hour. Part‑time, on‑call.
