Speech Pathologist/Therapist PRN

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) fulfills the needs of patients, families, and the community by delivering high-quality therapy services in accordance with state licensure laws, American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) standards of care, facility policies, and regulatory requirements. The SLP assumes responsibility and accountability for delivering comprehensive evaluation and treatment services to patients experiencing impairments in cognition, swallowing, speech, language, voice, and communication. This role focuses on restoring function, preventing complications, and promoting independence for individuals affected by illness, injury, or surgery. The SLP organizes, conducts, and evaluates medically prescribed speech-language pathology programs to address deficits resulting from neurological, medical, or traumatic conditions. Through evidence-based interventions, the SLP helps patients achieve their highest possible level of functional communication and swallowing safety, enabling successful participation in daily activities and discharge planning.

Qualifications

Speech Pathologist/Therapist Job Requirements:

  • Education Requirements: Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • Experience: Minimum 1-3 years experience. 3-5 years of experience preferred.
  • Skills: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities.
  • License / Certification: Current license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist in Florida. Current certification of Basic Life Support for Health Care Professionals. A Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA, or eligibility of certification upon completion of the Clinical Fellowship year (36 weeks from date of hire), is necessary.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel is not typically required for this position. However, on an occasional basis, and based on operational or staffing needs, employees may be asked to provide coverage at other facilities within UHS.
