Requisition No:880497 Working Title: SENIOR ATTORNEY - 41500112 Hiring Salary: $85,000 - $90,000 annually ***OPEN COMPETITIVE*** **APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT A WRITING SAMPLE** Overview: The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities. The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of more than 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement. Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Office of General Counsel supports the Commission by providing legal counsel on all matters under the Commission’s jurisdiction and prosecuting noncompliance with Florida’s gambling laws. As a Senior Attorney in the litigation unit, you will play a crucial role in all aspects of administrative and civil litigation, including: Advising the Commission on a variety of complex legal issues involving permitting, licensure, and compliance with Florida gambling laws; Conducting legal research, drafting charging documents and appellate briefs, and engaging in motion practice; Representing the Commission in administrative and civil courts; and Presenting cases in front of the Commission at scheduled meetings. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skill in drafting legal documents; Skill in managing multiple complex cases; Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel; Ability to prioritize work; Ability to work independently and in a team environment; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to conduct legal research; Ability to make oral presentations in court and in large groups; Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques; Ability to manage a litigation case load; Ability to recognize and act on emerging issues and shifting priorities; Ability to adapt to changing work volume and variety and work efficiently under stressful situations; and Ability to travel. Minimum Qualifications: Admission to the Florida Bar; Two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings; and Avalid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Florida’s Administrative Procedure Act.
