JOB OVERVIEW
• Job Title: Orthopedic Surgeon (Hand) • Job Type: Permanent - Full-Time • Location: Hobart & Valparaiso, IN (Chicagoland Area) • Service Setting: Inpatient and Outpatient • Schedule: Monday - Friday, with shared call responsibilities (1:6 rotation) • On-Call Expectations: 1:6 rotation • Start Date: Negotiable (credentialing typically 90-120 days) PATIENT POPULATION & SCOPE • Patient Demographics: Adults and Geriatrics • Average Daily Volume / Census: Diverse hand and upper extremity surgical caseload • Admissions & Rounding: Included • Consults & Follow-Ups: Yes • Case Mix/Clinical Focus Areas: Hand surgery and general orthopedic cases FACILITY & TEAM DETAILS • Beds in Department/Unit: Orthopedics Unit within a 458-bed hospital system • EMR System: Epic - fully integrated HIMSS Stage VII • Specialty Backup: Comprehensive physician network with subspecialty surgical support • Support Staff: Nurse practitioner support in inpatient and outpatient settings • Leadership & Reporting Structure: Reports within Community Healthcare System physician group • Reason for Opening: Growth and expansion of orthopedic service line CREDENTIALING & COMPLIANCE • Board Requirements: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery (Hand focus encouraged) • DEA & Certifications: DEA, CSR, licensure as required • Credentialing Timeline: Approximately 90-120 days COMPENSATION & PERMANENT BENEFITS • Base Salary: Highly competitive, negotiable per MGMA guidelines • Incentive Bonus Structure: RVU-based contract bonuses • Relocation Assistance: Negotiable relocation reimbursement • CME Allowance: Exceptional CME funds available • PTO & Holidays: Flexible paid time off • Health & Retirement Benefits: • Medical, Dental, Vision insurance • 403(b) retirement plan with employer match • Life & Disability coverage • Malpractice coverage under favorable Indiana laws • Additional Benefits: Licensure reimbursement (license, DEA, dues, subscriptions); sign-on bonus negotiable REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS • Board Status: BC/BE in Orthopedic Surgery (Hand focus preferred) • State License Required: Indiana medical license or eligibility to obtain • Certifications: DEA, CSR, BLS/ACLS as required • Experience: Subspecialty training in Hand Surgery encouraged; new graduates considered with mentorship support • Additional Requirements: EMR proficiency with Epic DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Deliver comprehensive hand and general orthopedic surgical care in inpatient and outpatient settings • Provide consultations, admissions, and follow-up care for hand and orthopedic patients • Collaborate with nurse practitioners, specialists, and multi-disciplinary teams • Participate in quality improvement initiatives across the health system • Contribute to practice development and support system growth COMMUNITY & LOCATION HIGHLIGHTS • About the Area: Located in Northwest Indiana, just 45 minutes from downtown Chicago; access to cultural attractions, world-class museums, and vibrant city amenities • Local Attractions: Beaches of Lake Michigan, arts, parks, and community events • School System: Access to quality public and private schools • Housing: Affordable housing options with suburban and urban communities • Demographic & Professional Profile: Family-friendly community with young professionals and established families • Nearby Cities: Chicago, IL within commuting distance • Nearest Airport: Chicago Midway International Airport and O'Hare International Airport • Distance from Airport: Approximately 40-60 minutes by carVacancy posted 5 days ago
