Job Title: Controller – Private Equity & Family Office-Midtown NYC -to grow into the CFO

Compensation: $250,000 – $400,000 Base Cash + Equity / Performance Incentives

Experience Level: Senior / Management

About the Firm

We are a high-growth, sophisticated investment platform combining a fast-paced Private Equity firm with a comprehensive Family Office . We manage a diverse, institutional-grade portfolio across private equity investments, real estate, and private holdings. As our firm expands, we are seeking an entrepreneurial, exceptionally intelligent Controller to take full ownership of our financial infrastructure. This is a unique, ground-floor opportunity to become a core strategic pillar of our leadership team and grow alongside the platform.

The Role

This position demands a rare blend of institutional Private Equity fund accounting paired with the white-glove, high-touch discretion required for personal wealth management . You will not just be executing processes;
you will be building them. We need a dynamic leader who can seamlessly pivot from calculating complex waterfall models to optimizing multi-jurisdictional real estate structures.

The ideal candidate does not just follow standard procedures—you possess the intellectual curiosity to think outside the box , challenge assumptions, and design innovative solutions for complex financial puzzles.

Core Responsibilities

1. Private Equity & Fund Accounting

  • Oversee the full accounting lifecycle for all investment vehicles, management companies, and general partnerships.
  • Manage net asset value ( NAV ) calculations, capital calls, distributions, and investor reporting.
  • Direct capital activity, including complex waterfall models , carried interest calculations, and management fee allocations.

2. Valuations & Analytics

  • Lead the valuation support process for all active private equity and direct investments, ensuring adherence to rigorous valuation frameworks.
  • Partner closely with investment teams to track, analyze, and stress-test portfolio company valuations and performance metrics.

3. Family Office & Personal Management

  • Manage comprehensive personal accounting for principal estates, including high-net-worth bills, expense tracking, and lifestyle assets.
  • Approve and execute critical wire transfers , cash flow movements, and high-volume treasury functions.
  • Direct real estate accounting , partnership distributions, and property-level financial analysis across a premium real estate portfolio.

4. Leadership & Mentorship

  • Actively manage and mentor a small team of two direct reports , instilling a culture of absolute accuracy, extreme attention to detail, and professional growth.
  • Serve as the direct liaison to external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent. CPA or CFA designation is highly preferred.
  • Alternative Investments Expertise: Minimum of 6–10+ years of deep fund accounting experience within private equity, venture capital, or a sophisticated family office environment.
  • Valuation Acumen: Proven familiarity with portfolio company valuations, discounted cash flows, and market multiples.
  • Intellectual Rigor: Exceptionally smart, highly analytical, and proven ability to think outside the box when dealing with unstructured problems or lean technology infrastructure.
