This role reviews and verifies prescription orders, conducts clinical consultations, performs drug utilization reviews, identifies potential medication-related risks, and ensures compliance with all applicable pharmacy regulations. The Staff Pharmacist also provides oversight and guidance to pharmacy technicians and supports daily pharmacy operations to ensure quality, safety, and service excellence. In the absence of the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), this position assumes Pharmacist on Duty responsibilities.Clinical Review & Medication SafetyReview, interpret, and verify prescription orders for accuracy and appropriateness.Perform comprehensive Drug Utilization Reviews (DUR).Evaluate prescriptions for: Drug interactionsAllergiesContraindicationsDuplicate therapiesIncorrect dosingPolypharmacy risksEnsure medications are dispensed safely and in accordance with clinical best practices.Stay current with evolving pharmaceutical therapies and treatment guidelines.Patient Care & ConsultationProvide patient counseling and medication education.Explain medication usage, dosing instructions, potential side effects, and therapy expectations.Conduct clinical consultations to help patients manage their medication therapies effectively.Promote safe medication use and adherence through proactive patient engagement.Provider CollaborationCommunicate directly with prescribers to clarify prescription orders and resolve medication-related questions.Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure optimal drug therapy outcomes.Facilitate prescription transfers in accordance with federal and state regulations.Pharmacy Operations & Quality AssuranceVerify prescription accuracy within the pharmacy management system.Perform final verification checks on prescriptions prior to dispensing and shipment.Support pharmacy workflow efficiency while maintaining a high level of accuracy.Assist with inventory oversight to ensure medication availability aligns with patient needs.Help identify, investigate, and resolve operational or medication-related issues.Regulatory ComplianceEnsure compliance with: Federal pharmacy regulationsState Board of Pharmacy requirementsControlled substance regulationsCompany policies and proceduresMaintain patient confidentiality and safeguard protected health information (PHI).Support accreditation, quality, and compliance initiatives as required.Leadership & Team SupportProvide oversight, guidance, and mentorship to pharmacy technicians.Support training and development efforts within the pharmacy team.Serve as a clinical resource for technicians and operational staff.Foster a collaborative, patient-focused environment.What You'll BringRequired QualificationsEducationBachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).LicensureActive Pharmacist license in good standing with the applicable State Board of Pharmacy.Experience & SkillsExperience in pharmacy practice, preferably within: Mail-order pharmacySpecialty pharmacyHealthcare or managed care environmentsStrong clinical knowledge and medication management expertise.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong customer service and patient engagement abilities.Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and maintain confidentiality.Strong operational focus and attention to detail.Ability to mentor and support pharmacy technicians.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and pharmacy management systems.Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementBirdi is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
