Protection And Controls Engineer

Join our dynamic Protection and Controls Department as an engineer dedicated to completing protection and control projects. Collaborate with both in-house and client engineers and designers, while offering training to junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Work on green-field and brown-field (retrofit) Protection and Control Projects in substations.
• Set relays and conduct relay setting calculations using ASPEN, AcSELerator 5010 (SEL), and other software.
• Design settings in the appropriate format and issue them to the assigned Protection and Controls Supervisor using IPS.
• Mark-up and review protection schematics and elementaries.
• Utilize MOB Port to review equipment and materials established by substation engineers for Protection Designers.
• Work with equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, buses, reactors, line disconnects, protective relays systems (SEL, ABB, etc.), and SCADA systems.
• Function as a project lead for protection and control projects.
• Perform all engineering and design activities with minimal direction.
• Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or external parties to complete substation projects.
• Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees.
• Identify and initiate corrective action when substation project objectives are not being met.
• Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects.
• Promote engineering professionalism and standards.
• Develop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements, including scheduling and resources for complex engineering.
• Travel to field substations is required, approximately 10-15% of the time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Over eight years of experience in utilities working with protection and controls.
• Over eight years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finish.
• Over eight years of experience setting relays and designing one-line diagrams.
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred).
• PE License is highly preferred. A clear path to obtaining a PE License is required if not currently held.

Job Type & Location: This is a contract position based out of New Albany, OH.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $49.62 - $69.46/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
