Open Deck Carrier Sales Representative

Carrier Sourcing & Network Building:

• Prospect, onboard, and establish long-term relationships with open deck carriers (Flatbed, Step Deck, Double Drop, RGN, etc.).

• Build specialized carrier lanes and capacity pools to support key account requirements.

• Monitor carrier performance, safety ratings, compliance, and insurance levels in accordance with company and DOT standards.

Rate Negotiation & Capacity Matching:

• Negotiate competitive spot and contract rates with carriers while protecting company profit margins.

• Match open deck customer loads with appropriate equipment types based on freight weight, dimensions, loading/unloading specs, and tarping requirements.

• Secure specialized equipment for permit-required, oversized, and heavy-haul shipments.

Operations & Execution:

• Provide continuous track-and-trace tracking for active shipments, proactively managing potential delays or dock/site issues.

• Coordinate special movement details with drivers and dispatchers, including escorts, pilot cars, route surveys, and permit verifications.

• Resolve transit issues, claims, accessorial charges (layovers, detention, tarp fees), and re-power needs quickly and efficiently.

Account & Market Intelligence:

• Analyze market trends, regional capacity shifts, and seasonal swings within the open deck sector.

• Work collaboratively with Customer Sales/Account Managers to provide accurate spot quotes and market insights.

• Maintain clean data, carrier notes, and rate histories within the Transportation Management System (TMS).

salary: $60,000 - $70,000 per year

Responsibilities

• xperience: 1–3+ years of carrier sales, freight brokerage, or dispatch experience, specifically focused on flatbed/open deck modes.

• Specialized Knowledge: strong familiarity with open deck equipment (Flatbed, Step Deck, RGN, Stretch, Conestoga), weight limits, axle configurations, tarping, and DOT/oversize permitting rules.

• Negotiation Skills: Proven track record of cold calling carriers, negotiating rates, and closing deals in a fast-paced environment.

• Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to build quick rapport with drivers, dispatchers, and internal teams.

• Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with modern TMS software, load boards (DAT, Truckstop), and carrier onboarding/compliance tools (RMIS, MyCarrierPortal).

• Problem-Solving: Ability to multitask, prioritize under pressure, and resolve logistical bottlenecks calmly and decisively.
