Software Engineer, Agents
Benchling
Benchling seeks a Software Engineer to build end-to-end AI agents that automate scientific workflows for biotech researchers. The role involves designing agent architectures, developing LLM-powered systems, and collaborating with customers to ship production features across platform infrastructure and user interfaces.
Responsibilities
- Design and productionize end-to-end AI agents automating scientific workflows from experiment design through reporting
- Engage directly with customers to identify use cases, gather feedback, and evaluate agent performance
- Develop across full stack including LLM-powered backend primitives and user interfaces within Benchling applications
- Enhance agent platform by building frameworks, tooling, and infrastructure for future agent development
- Contribute to technical direction and engineering practices as AI agent capabilities evolve
Requirements
- 8+ years professional software engineering experience with production systems
- Backend development proficiency in Python or similar languages
- Frontend development experience with React or equivalent frameworks
- Strong product sense and ability to iterate based on user feedback
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for LLMs and AI agent systems
- Collaborative approach working across engineering, product, and science teams
- Openness to learning biotechnology domain fundamentals
