Chemical Analyst

Overview The Chemical Analysts run XRF and wet chemistry analyses, collect information about the composition of chemical substances and processes, and communicate this information to quality lab personnel. Responsibilities Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines. Perform chemical analyses of raw materials, raw mill, kiln feed, clinker and cement, process additives for production, and quality control following plant SOPs, ASTM and AASHTO methods. Perform testing on hazardous waste–derived fuels used in cement kiln operations. Prepare and analyze samples of purchased and mined materials, intermediate, and final products using equipment and a wide array of wet chemistry analytical techniques. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications High school graduation or equivalent (required). Minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting with chemistry, biology, physics, or relevant cement lab experience. Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Knowledge of software applications, electronics, and computers along with hardware and software equipment. Knowledge of production and quality control processes in production environments. What to Expect in a Cement Environment Work will be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise. Exposure to high elevations up to 250 feet. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
