Hendry Regional Medical Center, a respected critical access medical center in South Florida with nearly seventy-five years of dedicated service to the community, is a thriving, mission-driven organization seeking to hire an Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Emergency Department team in Clewiston, Florida.

The Emergency Department RN delivers high-quality, compassionate nursing care to patients with urgent and emergent needs in a fast-paced environment. This role involves performing patient assessments, prioritizing and implementing care plans, administering medications and treatments, collaborating with providers and multidisciplinary teams, and providing education and support to patients and their families. The RN ensures that care is delivered safely and effectively, consistent with HRMC policies, state and federal regulations, and emergency nursing best practices.

Job Duties:

RN Core Competencies:

• Formulates appropriate nursing diagnosis and establishes patient outcomes in a plan of care.
• Accepts assignments based on competency and participates in committee/project work as requested by Director.
• Assesses patient teaching needs and participates in teaching opportunities with patients and other significant individuals as indicated.
• Consistently modifies nursing care as required by changing patient needs as determined by evaluation of care administered and continued patient assessment.
• Performs technical aspects of care according to established policies and procedures; utilizes proper techniques and adopts technique to the individual needs of the patient.
• Documents and communicates patient responses and effectiveness of nursing intervention in the patient’s medical record according to established procedures as outlined in the nursing policy and procedure manual.
• Prepares and administers medications with knowledge of action, mode, side effects, and contraindications.
• Transcribes, receives, and interprets provider orders for assigned patient. Carefully documents all patient related information in medical record.
• Coordinates effectively all patient care activity involving other departments, including admissions, transfers and discharges to promote an effective flow pattern.
• Strictly follows the principles of asepsis and infection control and maintains a clean and safe environment.
• Provides for patient safety through utilization of proper equipment and use of preventative measures (i.e. fall protocol/side rails, restraints, etc.)
• Demonstrates an ability to respond and provide direction in changing workload and during crisis and emergent situations.
• Consistently demonstrates an awareness of patient rights and functions as the patient’s advocate.
• Will perform waive testing as appropriate.
• Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting work schedule in order to cover for increases in workload and staff shortages due to census, illness, or staffing needs to cover for vacancies and/or leave of current staff.

Unit Specific Competencies - Emergency Department

• Demonstrates competency in clinical skills related to the Emergency Department.
• Demonstrates knowledge, location, care, and operation of all Emergency Department equipment. In-service records reflect training in any new or updated equipment.
• Uses appropriate assessment skills in judging the patient's needs for psychological, social, and emotional support as part of the emergency care given.
• Ensures that patient is properly identified by following established policy before care is performed.
• Assures discharge instructions are given to patients, and, if needed, utilizes available resources to provide for the continuum of care.
• Demonstrates understanding of legal issues in the Emergency Department: (i.e. child abuse, rape, blood alcohol, gunshot wound, medical examiner, Baker Act, Marchman Act, human trafficking and elder abuse).
• Performs patient care and communications within the guidelines of the Relationship and Results Oriented Healthcare Model utilizing the recommended bundles of best practice.
• Communicates and completes handoff documentation for effective handoff of patient care (SBAR) for admission or transfer to another health care facility.
• Follow ENA Guidelines for clinical, competency, staffing, and care of the patient.
• As a core member of the “Stroke Alert Team,” maintains up to date stroke education at a minimum of four (4) hours annually.
• Completes annual certification of the NIH Stroke Scale offered through HRMC electronic education system as assigned.
• Participates as a core member of the STEMI Alert Team in the Emergency Department.
• Performs BE - FAST (Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Assessments on patients presenting with stroke-like symptoms.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the STEMI Alert Process, Chest Pain Protocols, NSTEMI Protocols.
• Ability to set up and perform telemedicine consults for Neurology & Cardiology.
