Job Summary The Neurotrauma Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) at the University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma Department is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team. Our 24-bed unit specializes in the care of patients with traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, providing a dynamic and highly specialized environment where clinical expertise and compassionate care are paramount. Nurses in this unit collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to manage complex neurotrauma cases, monitor critical changes, and implement advanced interventions to optimize patient outcomes. Responsibilities Competent in all required skills and knowledge and fully participate in unit governance. Provide and coordinate care to patients within the neurotrauma specialty. Serve as an effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team. Demonstrate and model the full range of nursing practice in care delivery and participation in strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost effectiveness at the unit level. Hold accountability to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care. Accountable to peers for advancing group practice and to the nurse manager for performance. Ensure patient safety through participation in unit initiatives, taking action to correct risks, reporting adverse events and near misses, and identifying potential risks in processes, procedures and devices. Qualifications Registered Nurse licensed in Maryland (or eligible through Compact agreements). Minimum of 12 months experience as a registered nurse. Completion of required education and training, including current mandatory classes/training. Maintenance of at least 10 contact hours of continuing education per year. Member of a professional nursing organization. Recent clinical experience in a comparable neurotrauma or critical care setting. Demonstrated ability to lead as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource; effective multidisciplinary team member. Proficiency with computer systems for patient information management. Knowledge of patient developmental principles across lifespan and ability to assess age‑specific needs. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. #J-18808-Ljbffr
