All Team Members are expected to contribute to our safe, healthy, harmonious, positive, productive and professional work environment and culture.Position Details:Location: Pacific Cancer Care - 5 Harris Ct, Ste 201, Monterey, CA 93940Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8-Hour ShiftsReports To: Lead Medical AssistantEssential Roles and Responsibilities: Competencies, Skills and Abilities:Systems Management:Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of ONCO EMR:Ability to navigate patient flowsheet and identify name of injection regimen, specific regimen information (dosing parameters, scheduling, emetic potential and references), Cycle/Day numbers, review previous treatment doses and move orders accordinglyAbility to schedule follow up appointments and print schedules.Ability to record vitals, review medication list and verify smoking statusAbility to fax documents, print demographics, office notes, lab reports and insurance cards.Ability to review patient medication list and send patient prescriptions to designated pharmacy.Understanding of the importance of correct diagnosis code ICD-9 and where to find this in the chart.Completes Injection Administration Competency RecordDemonstrates adherence to OSHA requirementsDemonstrates the ability to remove the injections from vital path machineDemonstrates knowledge of the indication for use of individual injection drugsDemonstrates knowledge of individual injections side effects, toxicities, reports complications to RN as appropriate.Demonstrates knowledge of safe handling and administration of injections.Demonstrates knowledge of parameters to treat with lab values, vitals and proper diagnosis (ICD 10 code)Demonstrates appropriate techniques when administrating subcutaneous, intramuscular injections and skin tests intradermal.Verbalizes knowledge of and indication for use of commonly administered injections including; Procrit, Aranesp, Neupogen, Neulasta, Sandostatin, Faslodex, Lupron, B12, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine, Pneumococcal and TuberculinDocuments appropriately in ONCO EMRPatient and family teaching as appropriateDepartment Process and Patient Flow:Checks daily schedule for responsibilities.Prepares exam rooms for the dayManage physicians and injection schedule efficiently.Works effectively and efficiently. Identifies when to assist patients and colleagues.Ability to recognize change in patient condition and alert appropriate personnel.Ability to communicate efficiently with physicians and staff members from other departments.Demonstrates appropriate technique when assisting with bone marrow procedure.Translate, in Spanish on behalf of the oncology department and physician patients (bilingual Mas)Provide 2nd MA check of injections as requiredAbility to identify patients who require a gown prior to physician entering the roomManages voice mail efficiently and forwards messages appropriatelyAbility to discharge patients in a timely mannerNon-emergency calls to 911 and direct admissions to hospital under the direction of the physician:Ability to call 911 and provide information efficientlyAbility to print patient information efficiently and provide documentation for ambulance personnelPrepares patient for transfer via ambulance or by car with family memberAbility to contact nursing supervisor at local hospital to efficiently arrange for direct admissionAssist RN with telephone triage:Taking messages from answering machine in complete and accurateNotifies RN or physician of emergency callsAbility to send non urgent messages, text notes to appropriate personalPrepares for bone marrow procedure, patient family education, documentationLAB Coverage:Demonstrates adherence to OSHA requirementsDemonstrates knowledge of drawing blood in efficient mannerDemonstrates knowledge of safe handling specimensDemonstrates knowledge of processing specimens efficientlyDemonstrates knowledge of completing paperworkPerform other duties as assigned.Contributes to the organization's safe, healthy, harmonious, positive, productive and professional work environment and culture.Physical Factors:The physical abilities required of this position may include the following:Vision sufficient to read handwritten, typed and computer documents throughout the shiftSpeech and hearing sufficient to receive and communicate detailed information clearly by phone and in personMotor skills sufficient to handle, use or operate computer terminal, fax machine, copier, telephone, needles, IV,Manual dexterity sufficient to use a variety of hand held tools and to manipulate single sheets of paper and/or file materialsPhysical ability to reach, lift, and bend to retrieve and/or file materialsPhysical ability to sit, stand or otherwise remain stationary at work post for long periods of timePhysical ability to lift and carry 20 lbs.Physical ability to walk up and down one flight of stairs and between patient and departments throughout the day.
