Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our surgical oncologist, you will join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team in Tacoma, specializing in seeing patients with abdominal, soft-tissue, breast and skin cancers, to include a broad range of malignancies. 

Every day you will provide compassionate and expert care, focused on the comprehensive care of patients with complex oncologic conditions. This role offers the unique opportunity to leverage your expertise, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and significantly contribute to program development and resident education. 

To be successful in this role, you will provide advanced surgical care for patients with a broad spectrum of oncologic diseases, including Hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) cancers, gastric cancer, sarcoma, melanoma and other complex malignancies as appropriate. 

  • Actively participate in the education and mentorship of general surgery residents, providing guidance and hands-on experience in advanced oncologic surgical techniques
  • Collaborate effectively with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and other specialists to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to patient care
  • Establish and nurture key partnerships within the medical community and with referring providers to build a robust referral network
  • Commit to clinical service excellence and demonstrate exceptional problem-solving abilities

 

We are offering a sign on bonus in addition to relocation to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements. Retirement plans include both 401(k) and 457(b).

 

 

Job Requirements

Required

    • 3+ years of clinical experience
    • Board Certification in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
    • Board Certification in complex general surgical oncology by the American Board of Surgery.
    • Demonstrated experience in a broad range of surgical oncology procedures.
    • Proven experience and enthusiasm for resident education and mentorship.
    • Strong interest and experience in program building and developing key partnerships.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
    • Commitment to patient-centered care, ethical practice, and continuous professional development.
    • Ability to obtain privileges at VMFH hospitals
    • Ability to obtain a medical profession license in the state of Washington
    • Ability to obtain a DEA license with full prescriptive authority needed to practice
    • Must be a physician in good standing
    • No undisclosed conflicts of interest

$420,220 - $677,188 /year
