Education

A Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent training and experience is required. Professional credentials such as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS are mandatory.

Experience

Applicants should have over five years of coding experience, preferably within hospital settings, with at least two years focused on inpatient coding. Experience in Health Information Management within acute care, Peer Review Organizations, Quality Assurance, or Utilization Review is highly valued.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical record content.
• Familiarity with ICD-CM coding principles and the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently with significant decision-making responsibilities.
• Ability to interpret, analyze, and organize complex information with a focus on reimbursement implications.
• Comfort working in a busy, sometimes noisy environment with frequent interruptions.
• Near visual acuity and motor coordination to operate computer systems effectively.
• Willingness to commute between nursing units and the Medical Record Department as needed.
