About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 1 Year Recent ICU Experience License: Michigan License Pending Acceptable Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Holiday availability is required. No requests for time off in the first two weeks of assignment. All requests for time off must be presented prior to the offer. Description: The position requires working every other weekend. Float to other ICU and med-surg units may be required based on patient census in the ICU. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:1-4 based on acuity. ICU patients and PCU patients will mix. Patients in the PCU and general medical/transfer status can be grouped based on acuity ratios. Ventilator patients are typically assigned at a ratio of 2:1. Cooling, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), or high acuity cases will be in a 1:1 grouping. Patient diagnoses encountered may include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. Special procedures performed in this unit include CRRT, hemodialysis, arterial line placement, central venous catheter placement, tracheostomy placement, and chest tube placement. Required skills encompass interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, multi-system organ failure, cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal, and renal medical care. Responsibilities include IV therapy, central line care, medication administration, emergency response, and patient monitoring. Nurses will manage patients requiring ventilator support and perform various interventions, including arterial blood gas analysis and suctioning. Staffing in this unit will provide interdisciplinary support, including respiratory services, physical therapy, and pharmacy. The average daily census is around 15 patients, with a total of 20 beds available. The environment requires adherence to infection prevention protocols and the ability to manage patients experiencing multi-organ dysfunction. Nurses will be responsible for patient assessment, care planning, and collaboration with healthcare teams to ensure effective patient outcomes. Continuing education will be expected to maintain proficiency in critical care nursing practices.
