Key Responsibilities

• Provides intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
• Performs arterial puncture, oximetry, capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, and patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
• Performs and interprets 12-Lead EKGs, conducts routine review of chest x-rays, and assists with procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement
• Performs insertion and removal of endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent) using freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope system
• Conducts cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines and facilitates preventative maintenance and repair of respiratory equipment as needed
• Documents all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately in patient records and communicates patient status during shift-to-shift handoff rounds

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license or certification valid in the state of Florida
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• Ability to operate and maintain various mechanical ventilators and respiratory care equipment with minimal supervision
• Competency in arterial blood gas collection and interpretation, as well as pulmonary function testing

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in an acute care or intensive care setting with high-acuity patient populations
• Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing procedures including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
• Experience assisting with advanced procedures such as bronchoscopy and percutaneous tracheostomy placements
