Registered Dietitian

Job Summary The clinical dietitian is responsible for providing quality nutritional care for patients by monitoring their current health conditions, advising on nutritional and dietary supplements to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and speeding up their recovery process. The dietitian coordinates with other medical professionals to assess food choices and develop nutrition programs for the patients. Essential Duties Provide individualized nutrition counseling to patients with a wide range of medical conditions in a hospital setting. Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions, and current health plans to develop and implement personal dietary‑care plans that address the unique needs of each client. Complete nutritional assessments with patients in a hospital setting. Work collaboratively with physicians and health‑care personnel to determine nutritional needs and recommendations for clients as needed. Schedule and coordinate initial assessment and follow‑up appointments. Provide registered dietitian services according to policies, procedures, and federal/state requirements. Plan, organize, develop, and direct the nutritional care of patients in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility. Work effectively with others to ensure that quality nutritional services are being provided daily, and act as a resource to the Dietary Manager to meet patients’ nutritional needs. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Education and/or Licensure: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or an equivalent field; Certification/Licensure – State of TX Licensed Dietitian (LD) or Licensed Nutritionist (LN) or ADA Registered Dietitian (RD). Experience: 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; prior experience in hospital food service preferred. Additional Requirements: None. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses, and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client. Knowledge of clinical nutrition theory and practice. Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Knowledge of sponsored nutritional programs and patient certification requirements. Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on research data and findings. Ability to resolve interpersonal problems, disputes, and issues.
