Senior Controls Technician

KLUTCH Controls is seeking an experienced Senior Controls Technician to join our growing team. This is a hands-on position for someone who understands building automation systems beyond basic installation and wiring.

The primary responsibilities will include building and maintaining control databases, modifying existing controller code, commissioning systems in the field, troubleshooting operational issues, and supporting service work when needed.

We are looking for someone who can independently evaluate a controls system, understand how the equipment is intended to operate, identify problems, and follow the work through startup and final checkout.

Primary Responsibilities

· Build and modify building automation system databases

· Review and modify existing DDC controller programming

· Perform startup, point-to-point checkout, and system commissioning

· Troubleshoot controllers, field devices, communication networks, and control sequences

· Verify proper operation of AHUs, VAVs, fan-powered boxes, central plants, and related HVAC equipment

· Integrate equipment using BACnet, Modbus, and other common protocols

· Verify sensors, actuators, relays, safeties, alarms, and control outputs

· Work from control drawings, electrical diagrams, sequences of operation, and mechanical plans

· Coordinate with project managers, engineers, field technicians, mechanical contractors, and customers

· Document deficiencies, field conditions, programming changes, and completed work

· Provide service and technical support for existing customer systems

· Help guide and support less-experienced technicians when needed

· Maintain professional communication while working in hospitals, universities, and other occupied facilities

Required Qualifications

· Strong working knowledge of DDC and building automation systems

· Proven ability to build databases and modify controller programming

· Strong HVAC and mechanical-system knowledge

· Experience commissioning and troubleshooting controls in the field

· Ability to read sequences of operation, controls drawings, wiring diagrams, and mechanical plans

· Working knowledge of BACnet MS/TP, BACnet/IP, and Modbus communications

· Ability to troubleshoot network, controller, wiring, sensor, and actuator problems

· Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions

· Strong documentation and communication skills

· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

· Commitment to safety, quality, and professional workmanship

Preferred Experience

· Schneider Electric building controls

· KMC Controls

· ICONICS or other SCADA/front-end platforms

· Integration of third-party equipment, including VFDs, meters, UPS systems, generators, and packaged HVAC equipment

· Controls work in hospitals, laboratories, universities, or other critical facilities

· Graphics, alarming, trending, and system integration

· Controller replacements and migration of legacy control systems

What We Are Looking For

The right candidate is a problem-solver who takes ownership of the work. You should be comfortable moving between a laptop, a controls panel, and mechanical equipment in the field. This is not an entry-level position. We need someone who can understand the complete system—not simply replace parts—and who takes pride in leaving equipment operating correctly, documented, and ready for the customer. You will be required to complete a background check, drug test and have a valid driver’s license.
