Director, AI & Data Science

Salary: $75,000 - 105,000 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Engineering, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, or a related quantitative field; a masters degree or Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in data science, advanced analytics, AI/ML, GenAI, commercial analytics, healthcare analytics, or life sciences analytics.
• At least 5 years of experience leading cross-functional AI/ML or advanced analytics initiatives in pharma, biotech, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
• Demonstrated success developing and deploying machine learning models in commercial, medical, clinical, or healthcare settings, and taking data science solutions from business problem definition through pilot and production.
• Experience leading AI/ML or GenAI strategy, operating model development, governance, and adoption planning.
• Strongly preferred experience in areas such as rare disease patient identification, patient-finding models, HCP segmentation, care gap analytics, forecasting, Medical Analytics, Tender Analytics, or customer insights.
• Deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, including commercial models, medical affairs, market access, regulatory considerations, privacy, compliance, and data governance.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI, including explainability, bias and fairness, factuality, human review, data privacy, risk management, and auditability.
• Experience with cloud environments and modern data science infrastructure such as AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, or equivalent platforms; experience with Dataiku, Databricks, AWS SageMaker, or similar enterprise platforms is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Python, R, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, multi-agent workflows, and GenAI evaluation frameworks.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders, lead amid ambiguity, align matrixed global teams, and manage vendors, external partners, and cross-functional delivery teams.
• Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics in terms of business implications and recommendations.
• Preferred capabilities include scaling AI and data science in Commercial, Medical, or Market Access; designing AI governance with Legal, Compliance, Privacy, I&T, and Data Governance; and leading internal or external teams.
• Additional preferred experience includes GenAI for insight generation, competitive intelligence, forecasting, content analysis, decision support, or workflow automation; patient identification and rare disease diagnosis using real-world data; and developing ROI, adoption, and business impact frameworks.
• Publication, patent, conference, or thought leadership experience in AI, machine learning, data science, healthcare analytics, or life sciences innovation is preferred.
• Expected to set direction, influence senior leaders, manage competing priorities, develop talent, build capabilities, and guide the transition from isolated pilots to scalable, governed solutions.

• Develop and lead BARDS AI and data science strategy and roadmap in alignment with CSL Behrings Commercial, Medical, Market Access, and enterprise priorities.
• Identify and prioritize high-value AI opportunities, establishing an intake framework that assesses business value, feasibility, data readiness, risk, effort, governance requirements, and ROI.
• Lead advanced analytics, predictive modeling, machine learning, GenAI, and agentic AI initiatives from problem framing and feasibility through pilots, production, adoption, and value measurement.
• Direct patient identification and rare disease patient-finding work, and develop AI-enabled Medical Analytics capabilities such as care gap identification, medical impact measurement, HCP insights, evidence support, and field effectiveness.
• Partner with Tender, Pricing, forecasting, and market insights teams on analytics for tender performance, pricing, market dynamics, competitive behavior, scenario planning, and insight generation.
• Work with I&T, Data Governance, Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Medical, Commercial, and external partners to ensure AI solutions are responsible, compliant, and appropriately governed.
• Establish AI/ML and GenAI governance standards covering validation, explainability, human review, bias, factuality, auditability, data quality, privacy, monitoring, documentation, training, and risk management.
• Define the operating model for AI platforms, including project intake, prioritization, governance, enablement, value tracking, and scalable deployment.
• Improve adoption of AI-enabled workflows and self-service analytics; build internal capability through training, coaching, reusable frameworks, and practical enablement.
• Act as a strategic link between business needs and technical delivery, leading cross-functional teams to define requirements, success measures, resolve dependencies, and implement priority initiatives.
• Drive stakeholder alignment, change management, trust, and adoption so users understand and act on AI-generated insights.
• Manage the AI and data science portfolio, including prioritization, resourcing, governance, milestones, and value tracking; oversee vendors and external partners and advise on build-versus-buy decisions and technology selection.
• Define KPIs and ROI frameworks, ensure use cases have clear ownership and measurable goals, and report outcomes to senior leaders in accessible business terms.
• Represent BARDS and CSL Commercial Data Science in enterprise governance forums, external discussions, and relevant industry settings.
