Summary As an integral member of the Dialysis/Renal interdisciplinary team, the Medical Instrument Technician (Hemodialysis) contributes to various duties essential for maintaining a well-functioning unit. The technician comprehends the principles of dialysis, treatment elements, and potential complications. This position is located at Audie L. Murph VAMC in San Antonio, Texas within Nursing, Acute Care Service. Learn more about this agency Duties Help Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties may include but are not limited to: -Operate diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for kidney failure treatment. -Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, conduct disinfection, monitor water quality, and prepare dialysate. Keep accurate maintenance records and submit work orders for any necessary corrective maintenance if any of the dialysis machines are not functioning according to the manufacturer's specifications. -Set up dialysis machines and transport equipment for treatments. Perform necessary maintenance and adjustments. -Ensure that all dialysis machines used in dialysis are rinsed daily and disinfected according to the schedule, including complete documentation. -Clean and disinfect Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) following SOPs and manufacturer's guidelines. -Monitor water treatment systems and collect specimens for analysis. Maintain quality control records. -Ensure that all dialysis machines, including their maintenance, are monitored by executing the following tasks: routine station cleanup, dialysis machine disinfection, water treatment cleaning, pre-treatment safety checks, water quality testing, equipment function monitoring, and thorough documentation. -Stay updated on American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards and regulatory guidelines (Joint Commission, OSHA). -Follow safety policies and participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Report on machine maintenance and water quality. -Collaborate with various hospital services and outside contractors for equipment-related issues. -Educate new staff, hospital employees, patients, families, and Renal Fellows on dialysis principles and equipment. -Maintain and update policies and procedures related to equipment functioning and water quality testing. -Proactively monitor dialysis supplies and equipment and assist nursing leadership with financial planning related to machines and supply needs. -Perform cannulation following demonstrated competency and unit policy. Respond to physician/Registered Nurse (RN) instructions and independently perform tasks for stable patients. -Promote environmental stewardship by reporting water leaks and alerting maintenance, turning off all equipment when not in use, advocating for better equipment, and choosing sustainable supplies. Work Schedule : Rotating shifts that may include days/nights/weekdays/weekends/holidays: 5:00a.m. to 3:30p.m., 5:30a.m. to 4:00p.m., 7:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., 10:30a.m. to 9:00p.m. Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66 . Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework : Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
