Overview

FLSA: Exempt This is a professional position with core hours Monday - Friday primarily 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Employee in this capacity is responsible for the development and implementation of training for the La Crosse County Long Term Care and Assisted Living staff. Employee will develop training programs within general guidelines as established by the facility. Employee reports directly to the Director of Long-Term Care Services and exercises independent judgment in the evaluation of training needs.

Assists and works with department managers to determine training needs of staff through planning, promoting and presenting educational programs specific to departmental needs. Organizes, plans and directs in-service training for staff in cooperation with campus staff managers and outside resources. Develops an annual integrated training curriculum using an on-line training system. Customizes on-line courses to meet the needs of the facility. Develops live & self-paced supplemental training, as requested. Coordinates the overall QAPI Plan in collaboration with administration. Chairs long term cares campuses Quality Improvement Committee. Coordinates onboarding activities with Human Resources staff to develop general facility wide orientation and job specific training to assist and promote successful integration of staff.

This position will commute between Lakeview Health Center & Assisted Living in West Salem, WI and Hillview Health Care Campus on the southside of La Crosse, WI.

Essential Job Functions

Maintains program attendance tracking system in accordance with facility standards and regulatory requirements. Assures guidelines for record-keeping are developed and implemented.

Assures CPR training occurs to meet facility standards and regulatory requirements.

Creates opportunities for long term care campus employees to build and sustain an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes high performance and employee retention.

Maintains residents' rights and confidentiality of resident information; reports all suspected cases of resident abuse to Supervisor.

Works safely and follows safety practices and standards of the facility; responsible for reporting or correcting any existing or potential safety or accident hazard.

Employee is expected to report to work when scheduled, with minimum use of sick leave, to build up sick leave balance for income protection for unexpected illness.

In this public service position, employee is required to be courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times, with the public and clients. Also establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors and public officials.

Supports all aspects of person-centered care. Respects and acknowledges individuality and uniqueness of residents.

Physical demands: Large percentage of time is spent sitting at desk, using talking, judgment, hearing, near vision, fingering for keyboarding and calculators, reading, writing. Handles papers and manuals, etc., lifts files, copy paper, audio-visual equipment and other office materials. Sits, stands, bends and reaches intermittently throughout the day. Occasionally moves about the office building and travels to other offices or sites for meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles of adult learning and curriculum development, implementation, associated aids and available resources in carrying out a comprehensive training program.

Knowledge of Federal and State Skilled Nursing Care regulations and standards of nursing practice.

Knowledge of business etiquette and office procedures.

Knowledge of Quality Assurance Process Improvement (QAPI) systems and requirements.

Ability to effectively use office equipment such as computers, copy machines, etc.

Ability and skill in teaching and demonstrating proper procedures.

Ability to maintain record keeping systems.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Training, Experience and Other Requirements

Associate or bachelor's Degree in related health care field strongly preferred.

Experience in training, or nursing home/assisted living/other health care setting.

May consider other relevant combinations of training and experience or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Preference for current licensure in the State of Wisconsin as Registered Nurse.

Must be available to flex hours to meet the training needs of the facility.

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

Must pass criminal background check as required by Wisconsin Caregiver Law.
