Emergency Services Technician

Emergency Services Technician performs administrative/clerical duties in support of an assigned area. Employee is also required to perform telemetry monitoring.

Reports to: Emergency Room Director FLSA: Non-exempt

Job Requirements

• Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire. License: Certified Nursing Aide license is preferred.
• Minimum Work Experience: One (1) year of experience preferred.

Essential Functions

• Greets patients and visitors.
• Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls.
• Calls codes, pages, and overhead announcements as requested.
• Enters nursing requests subject to the approval of a licensed nurse.
• Asks for clarification when necessary.
• Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.
• Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies.
• Assists RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.
• Performs continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
• Identifies significant arrhythmias and/or signs of patient distress and intervenes appropriately.
• Identifies and corrects for artifacts.
• Reports abnormal assessment and telemetry findings or changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Tests equipment for proper working order.
• Reports equipment problems to supervisor.
• Other tasks that may be assigned.

• Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record, Bloodborne Pathogens.

• Physical Dexterity and Effort: Rarely Bending/Stooping, Climbing, Keyboard Data Entry, Kneeling, Lifting/Moving Patients, Reaching, Repetitive Foot/Leg Movements, Repetitive Hand/Arm Movements, Running, Sitting, Squatting, Standing, Walking, Pushing / Pulling, Lifting/Carrying (non-patient).
• Visual Acuity, Hearing and Speaking: Audible Speech, Hearing Acuity, Vision: Depth Perception, Distinguish Color, Seeing Far, Seeing Near, Biological: Biohazardous waste/hazards, Blood and/or bodily fluids, Communicable diseases/pathogens, Chemical: Asbestos or lead, Cytotoxic Chemicals, Dust, Hazardous Chemicals, Gases/Vapors/Fumes, Hazardous Medication, Latex.
