Santa Maria-Bonita School District (CA) is seeking a Buyer. The position is full-time and the salary ranges from $28.21 to $37.82 hourly. The job is located at 708 South Miller Street, Santa Maria, CA 93454.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Purchasing Supervisor, the Buyer will perform advanced analytical and complex duties pertaining to the acquisition of district equipment, supplies, and materials under $250,000. This role involves ensuring compliance with established purchasing regulations and practices, preparing, maintaining, and processing financial and statistical records and reports related to the district purchasing and stores functions.

Representative duties include meeting with vendors to identify product availability, costs, and delivery lead times; maintaining purchasing electronic/paper files and records; researching and preparing technical specifications; preparing and conducting lower dollar formal bids, RFPs, and RFSQ processes; preparing and submitting advertising of bids to the newspaper; conducting pre-bid meetings; conducting responsive and responsible reviews in compliance with all Board Policies, state, and federal regulations; comparing and analyzing quotations and recommending award; conducting public bid openings; requesting, reviewing, and maintaining certificates of insurance; preparing and/or proofing routine purchasing correspondence; maintaining district wide obsolete items listings; maintaining district wide copier program; coordinating annual growth furniture orders and replacement furniture; assisting Purchasing Supervisor with reviewing contract documents for compliance with all Board Policies, state, and federal regulations; assisting Purchasing Supervisor with contract management; registering and updating district Public Works projects with the Department of Industrial Relations; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of formal bid processes, technical specifications review and preparation, public contract code, contract general terms and conditions, execution and management, correct English usage, basic arithmetical concepts, computer skills, and standard office procedures. Ability to perform technical record management functions, perform arithmetical calculations, understand and follow directions, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, learn to operate the District's purchasing/inventory software system, and resolve disputes involving receipts, deliveries, and pricing.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of college-level course work in accounting, business administration, or related field and one year professional Buyer level experience including managing all aspects of the formal bid process. Additional Buyer level experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college-level course work.

Working Conditions

Office and warehouse environment; constant interruptions. Physical Abilities: Hearing and speaking to exchange information; sitting for extended periods of time; kneeling, crouching, or bending at the waist to retrieve and store files; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; seeing to view a computer monitor.
