Paralegal – Post Convictions Special Projects Unit, Private Counsel Division Full-time position based in Boston, eligible for a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of two days in the office per week. Position Overview The Special Projects Unit seeks a dedicated Paralegal to assist attorneys by gathering data, preparing evidence for hearings, filing public records requests, and monitoring legal developments that affect post‑conviction clients. Work is limited to state criminal courts. Responsibilities Conduct factual research via internal records, public records, and online databases; Prepare and pursue public record requests; Update databases and support database users; Organize and summarize data obtained through discovery; Locate and conduct preliminary interviews of potential clients and witnesses; Analyze data and present findings to attorneys; Stay familiar with relevant legal developments, such as Massachusetts drug lab scandals; Answer phone, written, and email inquiries from individuals inquiring about convictions; Maintain accurate electronic records of work performed; Other duties as assigned. Minimum Entrance Requirements Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal certificate, or two years of paralegal experience may substitute; Reliable transportation for travel to non‑accessible locations; Home internet access sufficient for remote work. Qualifications / Skills Strong interest in systemic and institutional reform for indigent clients; Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; Excellent organizational skills; Experience with factual research via internal records, public records, and online databases; Data analysis ability; Effective oral and written communication skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Competence in interacting with people from diverse backgrounds; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and persuasively.
