Staff Applied Scientist, Deep Learning Forecasting

About the Role Applied Scientists at The Trade Desk work closely with engineering throughout the product lifecycle, from ideation to productionalization and monitoring. Our data scientists are end‑to‑end owners, participating in the design, research, building, and delivery of data‑focused products for clients and traders. This role is responsible for the research and application of forecasting models to support planning and recommendation related products across the platform. Accurate forecasting is critical for providing timely feedback on user selection in audience, inventory, and other campaign set wills, using deep learning models to capture massive signal data. Key Responsibilities Develop ML/deep learning based models end‑to‑end to support various forecasting needs throughout the advertising campaign life cycle, including signal collection, feature construction, model evaluation, and monitoring. Collaborate with the engineering team on signal collection pipelines, model training, deployment, and monitoring processes. Work with downstream teams to understand forecasting needs and design appropriate models. Design offline and online model success metrics and use data to drive iterative model improvement. Qualifications Proficient in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) with a strong passion for enhancing technical skills; hands‑on experience developing ML/DL solutions using open‑source tools and cloud platforms; deep understanding of statistical foundations. Hands‑on experience building deep learning models at large scale and a track record of partnering with cross‑functional teams of data scientists, engineers, and product managers to deliver AI‑powered analytics or models. Familiarity with the forecasting domain, solid background and application experience; knowledge of privacy‑safe measurement and data storage is a plus. Possessing a keen sense of data intuition and the ability to innovate in model development; data‑driven mindset. What You Bring to the Table BS/MS with 8+ years or a PhD with 6+ years of experience working in a data science or ML role that involves bringing products from ideation to production. Experience in deep learning, PyTorch or TensorFlow preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, making architecture recommendations, ensuring effective execution, and measuring quality of outcomes. Experience running heavy workloads on a distributed computing cluster (especially EMR or Databricks), leveraging technologies like Spark to work with large datasets. Proficient in Python; strong Spark skills are a plus. Compensation & Benefits The base compensation for this role ranges from USD 137,300 to 251,800 per year, with actual amounts varying by experience, skills, and location.
