This position offers the chance to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that's constantly evolving.Position SummaryThe Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in leading all aspects of Bakery Department operations, including production, merchandising, inventory management, customer service, food safety compliance, associate development, and financial performance. This position helps ensure the department consistently delivers high-quality bakery products, maintains attractive displays, achieves operational goals, and provides an exceptional customer experience while supporting sales growth and profitability.Key Responsibilities Department OperationsAssist in managing daily Bakery Department operations.Ensure bakery products are prepared, packaged, labeled, and merchandised according to company standards.Monitor product quality, freshness, and availability throughout the day.Support production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory control procedures.Help execute promotional programs, seasonal displays, and merchandising initiatives.Customer ServiceDeliver exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture.Assist customers with product selection, custom cake orders, and special requests.Provide product knowledge and recommendations to enhance the shopping experience.Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.Support initiatives designed to increase customer satisfaction and department sales.Leadership & Team DevelopmentAssist with training, coaching, and developing Bakery associates.Provide daily direction and support to department team members.Promote teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.Reinforce company policies, procedures, and performance expectations.Assume department leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Bakery Manager.Merchandising & Inventory ManagementEnsure bakery displays are fully stocked, visually appealing, and maintained according to company standards.Monitor inventory levels and identify replenishment needs.Assist with managing shrink through proper production planning, rotation, and inventory practices.Verify pricing, signage, and merchandising standards are executed accurately.Support product presentation initiatives that drive sales and customer engagement.Food Safety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory standards.Monitor proper handling, storage, labeling, dating, and rotation of bakery products.Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.Promote safe work practices and proper use of bakery equipment.Support departmental audit readiness and inspection compliance.Financial PerformanceAssist in achieving department sales, gross profit, labor, and shrink goals.Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.Support efficient labor utilization and productivity initiatives.Assist with inventory management practices that contribute to profitability.Contribute to department success through strong operational execution and accountability.QualificationsPrevious bakery, food service, grocery, retail, or supervisory experience preferred.Knowledge of bakery production, merchandising, and food safety standards preferred.Strong customer service and communication skills.Ability to lead, motivate, and develop associates.Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management abilities.Basic computer, inventory management, and operational knowledge.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.Physical RequirementsFrequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.Ability to lift and move products consistent with department requirements.Ability to work around bakery equipment and varying temperature conditions.Ability to safely operate bakery equipment and tools.Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Key CompetenciesLeadershipCustomer FocusBakery OperationsFood Safety ComplianceInventory ManagementMerchandisingTeam DevelopmentCommunicationOperational ExcellenceProblem SolvingOrganization & PlanningAttention to DetailAccountabilityResults OrientationQuality FocusWe also provide a variety of benefits including:Competitive wages paid weeklyAccess to up to 50% of your earned wages before payday, via our partnership with StreamAssociate discountsHealth and financial well-being benefits for eligible associates (Medical, Dental, 401k and more!)Time off (vacation, holidays, sick pay).
