SCHOOL COUNSELOR – SPECIAL EDUCATION – GRADES 1-8

United Staffing a leader in the staffing industry has the privilege of assisting a small, private special education school in hiring a School Counselor. The ideal candidate has experience working with Grades 1-8 in a special education setting. Must have experience working with students with special needs. The student population consists of students with ASD, Anxiety and ADHD.

Salary - $65,000-$85,000 depending on experience

Excellent benefits package – Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO and paid DOE Holidays.

Hours – Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. 8-hour shift with paid lunch.

Responsibilities for the School Counselor:

• Identify and track goals for each student
• Offer counseling services to students grades 1-8, including individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention and parents and faculty
• Motivate students to take on challenging tasks
• Assist students in forming social and academic skills
• Write reports
• Work with school staff, such as teachers, support staff, administration, other related service providers and behavioral teams
• Complete all training provided by the school, including certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention
• Maintain accurate records and documentation

Requirements for the School Counselor:

• Advanced Degree in Counseling or School Counseling or Social Work is needed  
• Valid NYS licensure/certification
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a School Counselor in a special education setting  
• Working knowledge of IEPs
• Ability to work independently and as a team player
• Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills
• Compliant with all applicable laws and regulations
• Ability to provide 3 employment references
