Class A CDL Line Haul Mileage Driver

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated Line Haul Driver to operate various tractor–trailer combinations over long distances, delivering freight with precision and reliability. Drivers typically work a five‑day week, remaining home most nights, with an average annual pay of $107,000 and a tuition reimbursement program for recent trucking school graduates. Key Responsibilities Operate vehicles safely within DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspections, maintenance, and transportation of hazardous materials. Meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation and pass drug and alcohol tests. Perform pre‑trip inspections of vehicles before departing. Ensure freight loaded onto the trailer is stable and will not shift during transit and delivery; adjust load securement and distribution as needed. Operate tablets or phones to record delivery information and begin navigation. Unsecure freight for delivery and unload at drop‑off locations using a hand truck. Be available for around‑the‑clock freight movements and be willing to be away from home for extended periods. Qualifications Must read, write, and speak English. Have at least 12 months of tractor‑trailer driving experience or be a graduate of a state‑certified and licensed truck‑driving school, or have satisfactorily completed Old Dominion’s truck driver training program (ODTDT8/88). Perform simple mathematical calculations, handle receipts, read maps, road signs, and maintain logs. Operate a handheld mini‑computer when required. Possess a valid ClassA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with double/triple trailer, tanker, and hazardous material endorsements. Have knowledge of DOT regulations for safe driving, hours of service, inspection, and maintenance. Have working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems. Be available for around‑the‑clock trips and willing to be away from home for extended periods. Meet or exceed medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Satisfy drug and alcohol tests. Successfully complete the orientation/training program instructed by an Old Dominion qualified driver trainer. Physical Demands Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for up to 11 hours, stand, walk, bend, squatting, and carry moving freight ranging from 1 to 500pounds. Must load, unload, and secure full trailers weighing up to 50,000pounds, enter and exit the cab repeatedly, and operate manual controls and safety equipment with both hands. Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching at various heights are required. Work Environment Work may involve loading/unloading in enclosed and open trailers, exposure to all weather conditions, varying noise levels, and the need to drive in diverse lighting conditions and traffic. An employee may work with others or alone while operating or maintaining vehicles. Working Days & Shift Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday; PM shift.
