Farm Service Elevator has a full-time, opportunity in the role of Diesel Truck Mechanic. The Diesel Truck Mechanic is responsible for performing repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and shop support for company trucks, trailers, and related equipment. The primary focus of this role is maintaining and repairing vehicle systems outside the frame rails and externally accessible truck and trailer components. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance inspections and routine repairs on trucks, trailers, and fleet equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and DOT-compliant operation. Diagnose, repair, and maintain brake, air, suspension, steering, wheel-end, and related mechanical systems. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and lighting systems, including wiring, batteries, connectors, sensors, and exterior vehicle components. Inspect, service, and repair hydraulic systems, fuel and DEF systems, exhaust components, and other frame-mounted equipment. Maintain and repair truck bodies, trailers, liftgates, hoists, ramps, and other specialized fleet equipment. Perform basic welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs to support equipment maintenance and operational needs. Identify safety concerns, equipment deficiencies, and maintenance requirements; recommend and complete corrective actions. Prepare vehicles and equipment for DOT inspections and address inspection findings in a timely manner. Accurately document inspections, repairs, parts usage, labor, and maintenance activities using company systems and repair order processes. Coordinate with vendors and external service providers for specialized, warranty, or major repair work as needed. Communicate repair status, downtime estimates, parts requirements, and equipment concerns with supervisors and operational teams. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while operating shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance machinery in accordance with safety standards. Qualifications 2–5 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial trucks, trailers, diesel, heavy-duty, agricultural, or similar fleet equipment preferred. Knowledge of commercial vehicle systems, including air brakes, suspension, hydraulics, electrical/lighting systems, trailers, and DOT maintenance requirements. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using diagnostic equipment, technical documentation, and hands-on problem-solving skills. Experience performing preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and repairs to ensure equipment reliability and regulatory compliance. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, and repair documentation. Welding, fabrication, tire and wheel-end service, and DOT inspection experience preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple repair needs. Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality workmanship, attention to detail, and maintaining reliable fleet operations. High school diploma or GED required; technical or diesel equipment training preferred. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required. DOT Inspector Certification and CDL are preferred but not required.
