The Automotive Technician/Automotive Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles, including standard cars, electric vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks used in the postal fleet; troubleshoots and diagnoses more complex vehicle malfunctions using a variety of computerized test equipment; and may assist lower-level employees. This role requires working independently to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues, ensuring vehicles operate safely and efficiently. The technician performs preventive maintenance and safety inspections while primarily working behind the scenes.

Responsibilities

• Perform engine repair and maintenance
• Conduct brake system maintenance
• Execute diagnostic testing to identify issues
• Handle electrical system repairs
• Provide transmission service
• Carry out preventive maintenance tasks
• Replace parts as needed
• Perform safety inspections and vehicle testing

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in automotive repair
