Job Description: The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children’s Center) promotes the best possible mental health for children and families through research, intervention, training, and policy. Role Summary: The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a physical education program tailored for students with special needs, including motor skill development, adaptive activities, climbing wall oversight, cooperative team activities, coaching of the high school basketball team, and extracurricular programming. Essential Duties Develop and continuously monitor appropriate physical education curriculum for all students to address motor skill development and cooperative team participation. Adapt curriculum to address individual motor skill deficits, coordination difficulties, and perceptual‑motor and motor‑planning deficits. Demonstrate effective behavior management and group development skills when leading classes. Collaborate with the occupational therapist to plan and co‑lead adaptive physical education classes addressing sensory and motor planning deficits. Participate in annual clinical/educational case conferences and weekly classroom meetings as required. Organize, monitor, and maintain physical education equipment. Participate in professional development, staff, and floor meetings. Assist with crisis intervention and/or direct‑care coverage as needed. Participate in grant writing to benefit the program. Serve as head coach for the high school basketball team: schedule games, organize practices, plan travel, and coordinate materials/uniforms. Plan and organize extracurricular activities for middle and high school students, including the CHILL snowboarding program. In collaboration with the nurse manager and classroom teachers develop and implement school‑wide health curriculum. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field (Master’s preferred). Massachusetts Physical Education License PreK‑8 and 5‑12 in good standing or ability to obtain. Minimum 1 year teaching experience in a similar student population. First Aid/CPR and Physical Restraint training or ability to participate in annual training. General understanding of emotional, behavioral, and neurological challenges and their impact on student functioning. Citizenship, residency or work visa required. Logistics Salary: $75,000 – $90,000 per year.
