Job Description
Job Title: MRI Technologist
Profession: MRI Tech

License: ARMRIT or ARRT-MR
Certifications: BLS or equivalent

- Detail-oriented with the capacity to multitask
- Competence in all aspects of MRI and patient positioning
Description:
Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative.
Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures.
Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases.
Able to independently perform job functions.
Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for procedures.
Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety.
Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification.
Reviews images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
Responds to emergency situations promptly.
Assists other technologists in all modalities as needed.
Observes patient conditions and appropriately evaluates when physician intervention is necessary.
Verifies correct identity of patients prior to performing procedures according to hospital policies.
Ensures patients' privacy and comfort are prioritized.
Maintains patients' dignity throughout exams and procedures.
Demonstrates competence in applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age.
Organizes schedules, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
Follows physicians' instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
Understands and documents pre-procedure verification and Time Out process when appropriate.
Demonstrates and understands pre- and post-procedural care.
Prepares patients for procedures.
Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
Prepares trays and catheters for procedures, participating in biopsies if applicable.
Demonstrates proficiency on relevant software or systems.
Prepares and may administer contrast.
Verifies orders with contrast and checks relevant lab results and dosing based on weight.
Uses appropriate safety devices to protect patients' hearing during exams.
Understands anatomical positioning, correct labeling of body parts, and immobilization techniques.
Knows cross-sectional anatomy and includes all relevant anatomy.
Applies critical thinking skills.
Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
Demonstrates ability to adjust techniques to ensure high-quality study results.
Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor for timely resolution.
Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment following infection control policies.
Operates patient monitoring systems effectively.
Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients clearly to minimize anxiety.
Addresses patients' questions and concerns, notifying physicians when necessary.
Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
Documents concisely and legibly using precise terminology.
Reads emails daily and follows through with assignments.
Completes mandatory departmental education without prompting.
Produces acceptable images and follows established exam protocols.
Ensures equipment is operational by checking for calibration and deficiencies before each use.
Sends studies to the designated storage system immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed.
Maintains a safe environment in the imaging suite at all times.
Restocks linens and supplies, keeping the department clean and orderly.
Transports and positions patients as needed.
Performs patient charging activities on the service day.
Applies supportive and immobilization devices.
Provides knowledge and assistance to colleagues as required.
Performs clerical and support tasks as needed to ensure quality services.
Keeps supervisors informed about responsibilities and potential issues.
Maintains individual productivity rates consistent with co-workers.
Operates all workstations associated with MRI equipment.
Maintains standards set by regulatory agencies.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Takes call when necessary.
