About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Surgical Specialty Specialty: Surgical/Transplant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 48 Experience: 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience required. Stepdown/PCU experience preferred. Transplant experience preferred. License: Current RN License issued by the state board of nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association. Must-Have: - Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. - Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services. - Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues. - Good verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. - Some computer skills. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing the care plan while in the hospital and during discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is for a med/surg unit that requires acute care surgical floor experience. Candidates with ENT and/or transplant experience are preferred. The unit cares for post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients and pre-transplant patients requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery. This is not a PACU position. All nursing staff may work in either med/surg or stepdown roles based on the availability of nurses. Preceptor and charge experience are preferred.
