Part Time Data Scientist Assistant 1 - Genetic Medicine (Term Position)

Overview Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in Nashville, Tennessee, is a leading academic medical center focused on patient care, education, and research. The Clinical Pharmacology and Genetics division supports precision medicine and genomics research. Job Summary Data Scientists will analyze heterogeneous data, develop AI/ML solutions, and provide strategic data‑driven insights to improve patient health and inform new products and technologies. Key Responsibilities Participate in multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and recommend data‑driven decision‑making approaches. Lead discovery processes using AI/ML to solve complex data problems across various domains. Provide strategic direction on data science and AI in specific areas (e.g., cancer, surgery, planning services). Guide and educate data science teams to deliver unbiased, accurate analysis and recommendations. Develop analytics tools for staff with non‑technical expertise. Work with enterprise leadership to advance digital strategy. Recommend data collection, integration, and retention requirements based on business needs. Support scientific projects independently or under senior guidance. Design, develop, and modify scripts or software for data management, extraction, and analysis. Provide consultative services by gathering, analyzing, and presenting findings to leadership. Qualifications Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field. Minimum 3years of relevant work experience in data science or analytics. Proficiency with programming languages (Python, R, SQL) and data‑analysis tools. Experience applying AI/ML techniques to real‑world problems. Strong communication skills for presenting findings to technical and non‑technical audiences. Ability to work independently and collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.
