Role of the Position The Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences (KNS) within the School of Integrated Health Sciences invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Biostatistics on a 9‑month, tenure‑track appointment. This faculty member will contribute expertise in biostatistics, statistical analysis, and quantitative research methods across the department and school’s teaching, research, and doctoral education missions. The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in statistics and biostatistics, mentor doctoral and other graduate students, and develop an independent and collaborative program of research applying advanced quantitative methods to kinesiology and health sciences. Areas of research expertise may include exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, physical activity, sport and exercise science, or related areas of health science. Primary Responsibilities Instruction: Teach graduate courses in statistics and biostatistics, statistics, research methods, and related quantitative methods, with particular emphasis on applications in kinesiology and health sciences. Design, launch, and instruct new, advanced graduate‑level biostatistics coursework tailored to emerging research needs across the Department and School. Research: Develop and maintain a productive, externally engaged program of research that applies statistical and quantitative methods to substantive questions in kinesiology and health sciences, with an expectation of peer‑reviewed scholarship and pursuit of external funding. Graduate Mentorship: Mentor and supervise MS and PhD students, including serving on and chairing graduate advisory committees, and provide methodological expertise in the design, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of graduate student research. Research Collaboration: Collaborate with faculty, students, and interdisciplinary research teams on the design and analysis of health‑science research, contributing biostatistical and quantitative expertise to externally funded and other scholarly projects. Mentorship & Service: Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and participate in departmental, School, University, and professional service consistent with rank. Collaboration: Work effectively within a multidisciplinary department and School, contributing to a collaborative research and educational environment spanning kinesiology, nutrition, and related health sciences. As a 9‑month tenure‑track position, summer teaching, research, or other activities may be available depending on funding and departmental needs. Profile of the Department The Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences (KNS) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is a dynamic, multidisciplinary department with nearly 30 full‑time faculty and staff dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and service. KNS offers nationally accredited programs in Dietetics and Athletic Training, along with undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees that prepare graduates for careers in health, human performance, and research. The department has established strengths in exercise physiology, athletic training, biomechanics, physical activity and exercise behavior, and nutrition. Affiliated doctoral programs include Interdisciplinary Health Sciences, Sport Sciences, and Neuroscience, Faculty maintain active, collaborative research programs supported by competitive extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), and numerous private foundations. Through a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and student mentorship, the department advances research that improves health, physical performance, and quality of life across diverse populations. Minimum Qualifications (Assistant Professor) Biostatistical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in biostatistics, statistics, or quantitative research methods, including the application of statistical methods to health‑or human‑performance‑related research. Teaching: University‑level teaching experience or demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics, biostatistics, research methods, or related quantitative methods. Research: An emerging record of peer‑reviewed scholarship applying biostatistical or quantitative methods to research in one or more of the following areas: exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, physical activity, sport and exercise science, or a closely related area of health science. Research Potential: Demonstrated potential to develop an independent, externally funded program of research and to contribute quantitative expertise to interdisciplinary and collaborative research teams. Graduate Mentorship: Evidence of the ability or potential to mentor graduate students and contribute doctoral education, including research design, statistical analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of research findings. Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and interdisciplinary research teams in kinesiology, health sciences, or related fields. Minimum Qualifications (Associate Professor) Biostatistical Expertise: Demonstrated advanced expertise in biostatistics, statistics, or quantitative research methods, including substantial application of statistical methods to health‑or human‑performance‑related research. Teaching: A sustained record of successful university‑level instruction, including experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in statistics, biostatistics, research methods, or related quantitative methods. Research: An established record of peer‑reviewed scholarship applying biostatistical or quantitative methods to research in one or more of the following areas: exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, physical activity, sport and exercise science, or a closely related area of health science. We expect that the person in this role can credibly serve as statistician on competitive grant applications. Research Leadership and Funding: Evidence of an established independent research program, including a record of seeking and/or securing external research funding and demonstrated capacity to lead and contribute to interdisciplinary research collaborations. Doctoral Mentorship: Demonstrated experience mentoring graduate students, with preference for experience supervising doctoral students, chairing or serving on dissertation committees, and providing advanced methodological guidance in research design and statistical analysis. Scholarly Collaboration: A sustained record of effective collaboration with investigators across disciplines, including substantive contributions of biostatistical or quantitative expertise to research teams. Professional Standing: A record of professional service, scholarly contributions, and recognition consistent with appointment at the Associate Professor level. Candidates considered at the Associate Professor rank must meet the University’s criteria for appointment at that rank.
