Assistant Store Manager

Summary The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Director in overseeing daily store operations, ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining merchandising standards, and driving sales performance. This role helps lead and develop store teams, manages inventory and ordering, and ensures compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities

• Operational Leadership - Oversee daily store functions including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, scheduling, and department coordination.
• Team Management - Train, coach, and supervise employees; support hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations; foster a positive, productive work environment.
• Customer Experience - Ensure high service standards, resolve customer concerns, and maintain a clean, welcoming store environment.
• Merchandising & Presentation - Maintain product displays, signage, and planograms; ensure departments are fully stocked, rotated, and visually appealing.
• Inventory & Ordering - Monitor stock levels, manage shrink, oversee ordering and receiving, and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Safety & Compliance - Enforce food safety protocols, sanitation standards, and regulatory requirements; ensure employee adherence to company policies.
• Sales & Financial Performance - Support sales goals, analyze KPIs, assist with budgeting, and help execute promotional strategies.
• Cross-Department Support - Collaborate with department leads (produce, grocery, deli, meat, bakery, etc.) to ensure smooth operations and consistent standards.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of grocery, retail, or food service leadership experience
• Strong communication and team-building skills
• Knowledge of grocery operations, merchandising, and inventory systems
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced environment
• Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
• Familiarity with POS systems, ordering platforms, and scheduling tools.
