Essential Duties
Employees in the classification sit, pull, climb stairs, stoop/bend, use fingers repetitively, twist or apply pressure with wrists or hands repetitively, use both hands and/or legs simultaneously, have rapid mental/muscular coordination, speak clearly, hear, have depth perception, have color vision/distinguish shades, see small details and for long distances, operate mobile motorized equipment, drive a vehicle. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification work inside and outside, in changing temperatures to over 90°, gas, exhaust, and cleaning solvent fumes, dust (moderate to high concentrations of silica or allergenic dust), odors, moving vehicles, exposure to minor and severe contagious illnesses/diseases (colds, flu, tuberculosis, measles, mumps, chicken pox, hepatitis), in direct contact with the public, students, district personnel.

Paid Holidays
Up to 16 holidays per year depending on months worked for all classified employees. Paid Vacation

For positions 35 hours or more per week the District contributes $12,900 (subject to change) toward annual premium for medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Partially paid benefits are available for part-time (20-34) hour employees. The District participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees. District Benefit Providers: The following benefit providers are available for enrollment for eligible employees. *Medical: Kaiser, United Health Care PPO/HMO
*Dental: Delta Dental (PPO) or DeltaCare USA (HMO)
*Vision: Vision Service Plan (VSP)

Paid Sick Leave
Every regular classified employee, probationary or permanent, can earn paid sick leave credit(s) based on one day for each month in which such employees are in a paid status with the District. Earned, but unused sick leave can accumulate without limit. Full-time classified employees (those who work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and 12 months per year) will normally earn twelve (12) days of sick leave credit(s) during each fiscal year.

Essential Duties
- Drives a school bus or transportation vehicle over assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule.
- Transports children to and from school.
- Loads and unloads students safely at designated stops and on study trips.
- Adheres to District policies and procedures regarding student discipline, and public contact with parents and community members.
- Performs daily safety inspections.
- Stops traffic and escorts children across streets, when necessary.
- Prepares daily reports on student loads, mileage, type of trip, and standby time.
- Reports problems or equipment malfunctions.
- Transports children with special needs.
- Washes, sweeps, mops, and polishes the interior of a school bus or transportation vehicle.
- Performs minor first aid.
- Cleans up after ill children.
- May remove graffiti from bus seats.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Possession of a Type-1 School Bus Special Driver Certificate issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Possession of a valid Class A or Class B California Driver License with passenger endorsement or equivalent, including current medical certificate approved by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Must be able to be insured, and continue to be insurable, by the District's liability insurance carrier.
- Applicants must provide the Personnel Commission Office with a copy of their current ten year driving record, obtainable from any office of the California Department of Motor Vehicles, at the time of application.
- This classification has been designated as safety-sensitive in accordance with Public Law 102-143 and requires a pre-employment drug test as well as a continued drug-free lifestyle for continued employment.
Ideal candidates will have

- Basic safety and maintenance requirements of automotive equipment.
- Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code and the California Administrative Code, Title 13 applicable to the transportation of students.
- Drive a Type-1, 76 passenger, or more, standard shift or automatic transmission school bus with air brakes safely and efficiently.
- Maintain appropriate student behavior on a school bus.
- Follow oral and written directions.
- Learn the proper methods of bus safety inspections and maintenance.
- Handle situations with tact and diplomacy.
