Chaplain - PRN - Hospital - Okmulgee

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education - High School diploma; Bachelor's degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, Religious Studies, Pastoral Counseling or a related field of ministry is preferred but not a requirement.


Experience -One (1) year hospital experience or three (3) years of other relevant experience.

Licenses & Certification - Must be an ordained minister. A Board Certified Chaplain in good standing with a professional chaplaincy organization is preferred. Valid driver's license.

Knowledge & Skills -

1. Knowledge of and experience with the principles and procedures of chaplaincy including an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care, religious research, advocacy and education about the role of the chaplaincy, coordination of resources, planning and implementation of a chaplaincy program.
2. Knowledge of current ethical, theological and pastoral issues.
3. Ability to act with integrity, sensitivity, and understanding.
4. Knowledge and skill to utilize a PC in a Windows environment and to operate other necessary office equipment
5. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize activities.
6. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, medical staff, administrative staff, health care professionals and the general public both orally and in writing.

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of the position is to offer spiritual care services to patients and families, using their theological training to help patients and families cope more effectively. This position coordinates and supports clergy, pastoral visitors, and volunteers from the religious community. This position will be scheduled on a pro re nata basis meaning this position is utilized on an as needed basis. This position will float between our three hospitals, Council Oak Comprehensive Healthcare (Tulsa), Muscogee Nation Medical Center (Okmulgee), and Creek Nation Community Hospital (Okemah) as needed. Local travel is required. Incumbent must be insurable to drive a GSA vehicle.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an office and inpatient health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Must be willing to take personal precautions as requested. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and/or emotionally disturbed patients, families, and visitors. Position may require on call services as needed in response to patient and hospital needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work includes the demands of both normal office work and dealing with patients in a hospital setting. Substantial time spent with patients and family members which requires a high degree of spiritual sensitivity, emotional energy and mental alertness. Must have mobility throughout the Department of Health facilities, significant time may be spent walking and standing. Driving is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

2. Participate in meeting ritual and sacramental needs as necessary.
3. Support an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care.
4. Participate in programs and administrative activities of the organization.
5. Assist in the coordination of clergy and pastoral visits from the religious community.
6. Participates in continuous quality improvement.
7. Maintain and update departmental policy and procedures as needed annually.
8. Educates hospital staff, physicians, patients and families about the role of chaplaincy, highlighting the importance of spiritual care.
9. Accurately and appropriately identifying and providing for the spiritual needs of patients and families.
10. Diligence in information governance observing confidentiality of all information including awareness and adherence to all legal requirements.
11. A commitment to one's own professional and spiritual growth and development.
12. Keeps record of pastoral activities to communicate with hospital administration.
13. Respects the goals, desires, and choices of each patient/family member and provides respectful, culturally competent patient-centered care.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
