After-School Program: Assistant Coordinator

Job Description:Reports to: Program CoordinatorExpanded learning programs are structured educational opportunities that occur outside the traditional school day, combining academic support, enrichment activities, and skill-building to enhance students’ overall learning and development. The Expanded Learning Assistant Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, and management of high-quality, developmentally appropriate afterschool and summer learning programs for school-age youth. This position aligns with the National Afterschool Association (NAA) Core Knowledge & Competencies and plays a critical role in supporting student success, positive youth development, and collaborative partnerships with schools, families, and communities.Benefits:Pay rate: $27.00 - $31.00 an hour, Full-time 40 hours a week, year-roundUp to 16 paid BACR holidays and 25 school holidays per yearStepping stone into a career in education, leadership, advocacy, social entrepreneurship, and social justiceEmployee assistance program, medical, dental, vision, wellness program, life insurance, flexible spending account, transit and parking flexible spending accounts for commuting expenses, 403b planQualifications:Associate Degree or higher; alternatively, completion of at least 48 or more college units, or a passing score on the Instructional Aide ExamSuccessful completion of a criminal background check and TB test clearance3 years of experience in a K-12 setting, or other youth lead programAt least 2 years of supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead and support a team of adultsProficiency in technology & computer applications (Word, email, Google Drive, etc.)Available full-time, Monday through FridayWilling to commit to a full academic school yearMust be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and be capable of standing and walking for extended periods of timeAbility to communicate effectively in English with students and familiesBasic English reading proficiency to support students' academic development, enrichment offerings, and school day alignmentKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Child and Youth Growth and DevelopmentFoster a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that supports the developmental, cognitive, social-emotional, and physical needs of youthBuild positive relationships with students and encourage youth voice and leadershipMust be able to resolve conflict and guide student behavior restoratively2. Learning Environments and CurriculumAssist the Coordinator with designing and delivering project-based, culturally responsive, and enrichment-focused curriculum aligned with school-day learning and youth interestsAssist the Coordinator with implementing academic support, SEL, and enrichment activities that reflect best practices in youth development3. Child/Youth Observation and AssessmentAssist the Coordinator with tracking student participation, progress, and engagement to inform planning and ensure continuous improvementAssist the Coordinator with supporting individual learning goals and behavior strategies in coordination with school-day educators4. Program Planning and DevelopmentAssist the Coordinator with developing program schedules, lesson plans, and materials to meet program goals and compliance standards.Assist the Coordinator with logistics, including space usage, supplies, and daily operationsAssist the Coordinator with continuous Quality Improvement-Engages in a data-driven program quality improvement process; uses assessment and reflection data to inform academic instruction, literacy activities, and small groupAssist the Coordinator and collaborate with school site stakeholders to develop programs that support student development and academic successAssist the Coordinator in facilitating training, meetings, and events for staff and stakeholders5. Family, School, and Community RelationshipsAssist the Coordinator in cultivating strong relationships with school staff, families, and community partners to support program outcomes and objectives.Assist the Coordinator in facilitating family engagement events and communicate regularly with caregivers6. Health, Safety, and WellnessEnsure that program practices meet or exceed health and safety standardsUphold policies related to child supervision, emergency preparedness, and mandated reportingEnsure safety standards, policies, and procedures are being met at all times7. Professionalism and LeadershipServe as a role model for staff and youth; uphold high ethical and professional standardsMust maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high degree of integrityParticipate in ongoing professional development aligned with the NAA competencies.On the ground visibility, which may include, but is not limited to, daily observations, side-by-side modeling, and coaching.Participate in all meetings, workshops, and activities organized by BACR and District partnersMust have working knowledge of DEI concepts.8. Program Administration and OversightAssist the Coordinator with managing attendance records, reporting requirements, and assist with grant compliance as needed. Submit all required documentation on a timely basis, including program reports.
