Assistant Professor (Chs) - Diagnostic X-ray Medical PhysicistThe Department of Radiology invites applications for a Diagnostic X-ray Medical Physicist to join the Section of Clinical Imaging Physics, a joint section with the Department of Medical Physics. This Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) Track faculty position offers the opportunity to contribute to patient-centered clinical imaging, advance imaging quality and safety, and engage in education and mentorship within a highly collaborative academic medical center.The UW Departments of Radiology and Medical Physics are internationally recognized for their impact on the development, translation, and clinical practice of medical imaging. Medical physicists play a central role in delivering high-quality imaging care, supporting clinical innovation and quality improvement, educating trainees and providers, and ensuring excellence in safety, accreditation, and regulatory compliance.This is an onsite position, with clinical work performed at UW Health Hospitals and Clinics on the main campus and throughout the Madison, Wisconsin area.Applicants interested in pursuing an academic career will be considered for the title listed: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.The Section of Clinical Imaging Physics is committed to support clinical excellence while enabling faculty growth, scholarly engagement, and leadership development.70-80% X-ray Diagnostic Medical Physics Responsibilities:Equipment evaluations, acceptance and accreditation testing, and quality assurance (QA) program oversightImage quality troubleshooting and protocol optimizationPatient dose monitoring, review, benchmarking, and managementParticipation on x-ray safety and modality operations committeesQualified Medical Physicist (QMP) oversight of Medical Physics Assistants supporting fluoroscopyFluoroscopy safety and use training for clinical providersQuote review, shielding design, and site planningMaintenance of American Board of Radiology (ABR) and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) certifications and engagement with emerging technologies10-20% X-ray Diagnostic Medical Physics Research Responsibilities:Scholarly activity and professional service10% X-ray Diagnostic Medical Physics Teaching Responsibilities:Teaching in the Medical Physics Graduate ProgramMentoring Medical Imaging Physics residentsSupporting Radiology resident education and CMEThe UW Department of Radiology consists of more than 165 faculty across 13 sections, reading over 1,000,000 diagnostic scans per year. We train more than 50 residents and fellows per year and have an extensive presence throughout the medical student curriculum.We support the Wisconsin Idea to improve people's lives beyond our walls by collaborating with industry to translate modern technology into daily clinical practice. We recruit and develop dedicated faculty and health professionals who inspire their co-workers and students towards lifelong learning, research discovery, service to their community and clinical excellence.Compensation: Negotiable: 12 monthEmployees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and sick leave; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits.Required Qualifications:Completion of a Medical Imaging Physics residency by start date.Board certified or board-eligible by American Board of Radiology (ABR) by start date.Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) certified or eligible to obtain MQSA certification by start date.Training and experience conducting X-ray equipment evaluations, including knowledge of requirements associated with maintaining regulatory and accreditation standards for Fluoro-guided interventional systems, Mammography, Computed Tomography (CT)Travel is required to UW Health sites in the Madison area. Must provide a valid driver's license. Employees may use their own transportation or receive approval for University Car Fleet usage.
